My 10 year old cat is moving house with me. How long should I keep it confined in the house before I can be sure it will not return to my old home. Should I exercise it in the garden to get it used to it's new surroundings. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi perose.. I would leave your cat indoors for two to three weeks if possible let him/she have a window view so he/she gets used to outside .I would not let your kitty out in the garden, something could upset the situation ie.loud bang..another cat... car back firing any of these things could make the cat bolt. Im sure if you keep him/her confind for two to three weeks you will have no problems.Good Luck and I hope kitty settles well.g.

Thankyou Garner for your help and advice.
Hi perose,
We kept our cat in for the time stated by garner :) and also? I did walk her up and down the garden lol and just spent time with her in the garden too..... but.... she is a very attached cat, not so adventurous these days.....
She used to disappear off for days when she was younger and caused many a ulcer lol.....

Good Luck on your new adventures :)

you should keep your cat in for two weeks after moveing.a litter tray is essensial to this problem or you will end up with lots of little problems. deadlock777 [cats protection leage]
Personally, I think it depends on the cat. I had a cat that got used to me moving a lot. After the third move, I would let him out on the first day, and he was fine. I've also had cats that had a very difficult time adjusting to even minor life changes. You should know your cat. What do you think?
You can buy a cat harness and walk your cat around your new address so she gets use to the area Night time is better so no one can see you luckely the dark nights are here. I work in a pet shop and these are very popular for this reason
