I have over the last few days developed a very sore lower back, feels like the muscles on either side are pulled. However, my boyf has noticed that all on the ridges of my spine there is bruising. I haven't knocked into anything, what could it be? Not sure whether to bother the Drs with it.

if you dont want to go to your GP then call NHS direct at the very least.
I agree with redcrx . I think though that it might be better if your GP had a closer look at the bruising. There are several things this could be and really only a proper examination can provide you with an accurate answer. So, don't hesitate, see your GP tomorrow. Best wishes :o)
Sounds like a stupid question, but have you been in a pedalo or a go-kart recently? Reason I ask, is whenever the kids or I do any of these activities, we always get bruises down our spine where our back has been pressing against the hard back seat while our feet have been strtched out and pushing the pedals. My husband never gets this- must just be the shape of our back. Also get it when going down waterslides or anything like that.
Another thought, you have you been engaging in sexual activity on a hard surface? Not that I want to know about your love life, but for the same reasons as above.
