Dogs don't have the enzime that breaks down the bacteria in cow's milk, it's not toxic, but can really upset thier system. They can drink goats milk or puppy formula without a problem though. Another alternative which is almost as good as mothers milk is carnation milk diluted 50/50 - you can even raise newborn pups on it. Having said that at 4 weeks old they should be drinking some water.
I wouldn't put them on cows milk, it's about time to start introducing some puppy meal or well soaked puppy food with a puppy milk. By 5 weeks you should look at them being almost completely weaned.
Don't know if you know but they need worming every 2 weeks as well, 2, 4 and 6 weeks.
Good luck

Thanks for your answers they have helped. Yes we knew about worming them and have done so and now they are weaned and adorable. They are also drinking waer as well as eating well soaked food. But thanks for the tip about the goats milk and the carnation.
