What can cause maggots in a house? First there were about 15 dead flies outside the door and then two days later i came home and there were about 200 dead maggots on the inside tile floor. What could be the cause of this? I purchased bug spray that you are supposed to concentrate and didnt concentrate it. I used about 2 gallons around the whole house. It seems that that may have taken care of them. Were are these little nasty bugs coming from? And what should I do if I see them again? Thank you

Dead mouse under the fridge?

You might be glad to learn that those nasty bugs may have saved your life. If it weren't for maggots neutralising putrifying meat you could very well be suffering from all sorts of diseases.
I don't know the answer but don't forget maggots eat plants and fungi too
The flies would have been attracted to something (a dead animal/rotting food etc) - they seek out a protein source to lay their eggs on so that the young maggots have plenty of food when they hatch.

The life cycle of the fly is the same as that of a butterfly - adult/pupa/larva(maggot in this case).

One adult femal fly will lay hundreds of eggs and these will hatch within hours if it is warm, resulting in hundreds of maggots!! If left to their own devices the maggots will feed for about a week, then pupate and emerge as adult flies around a week after.

I used to breed flies for a living (I'm a biologist)!

Removing anything that will attract the flies will sort out your maggot problem : )
