HI guys can you give me your thoughts, my burt hates travelling in our car, we never go far and we ALWAYS keep the windows slightly open.
He has never vomited but he constantly whimpers on we make sure he is comfy and i always sit with him.
I have noticed he yawns a lot to burt is due back at the vets in may and i will tell him about this, but just wondering how are your dogs/ pets when travelling.
best wishes megan

Every dog we've had has always loved to ride in the car. I thnk it is because we take them everywhere with us from when they are a puppy. The only thing better than riding in a car is riding in a car on a bumpy dirt road. Our dog knows that means we are going hiking in the mountains! He gets really excited when the road gets bumpy.
megan you could try some of the herbal tinctures that may calm him down, like rescue remedy - or 'show off' from FitandFertile, I always use it on one of mine when she goes to shows as she is hyper!!

our dog used to salivate until he was soaking wet when we first got him. we cured it by very slowly getting him used to the car first just standing next to it then sitting on a seat with him outside with the door open then in the back of the estate. It was all done very slowly over a few weeks but since then he has been absolutly fine. Just take it slow get him used to it dont make a fuss if he sees you are ok and not bothered he will come to trust you and the car. hope that helps you just need a lot!!!! of patience.

Hi megan
We have a little Westie and she reacted in the same way for ages when she was in the car.
Just last week we took one of her favourite soft toys with us and she settled down a treat. Shook it and bothered it and that actually distracted her from being unsettled when we are in the car.
Good luck. It is worth a try.
Do you travel him on the seat of the car? If so he may feel insecure, I would suggest travelling him in a car crate, covered with a cloth so he cannot see out.

Hi guys thank you cruella my mother -in-law has to westie's they love the car, i will put some more of burts toys in the car .
We always take his favourite teddy but i will take more out with us .

Lankeela you have read my mind i was just looking at the car crate's, burt sits on the back seat and he gets up on the back of the seat.
Have you seen the car cradles you attach a specially made heavy duty fleece to the back and front seats, it looks quite cosy .
Ones again thank you all for your good advice love megan
Hi megan,hi mrknowall too.
My lab was winging at first in my sisters car but soon settled down, and was settled and quiet all the way home. This was her first time on a long journey but we made several stops for wee and water ( for her and us humans ).I had some tablets called Serene-UM from the vets in case she was upset , but didnt need it.
