has anyone got a dog who goes 'mad' at the hoover, and if so, have they managed to stop it. I have one bitch who goes nuts, my husband can stop her biting it, but she will just not shut up barking at it, and if I get my little hand held dust buster out, no-one on earth can shut her up - she must think it is an animal. She is a little angel, but get the hoover out and she turns into a beast!! I have tried leaving the hoover out, but she takes no notice of it until I touch it - regardless of whether I turn it on or not. Its just easier to shut her outside, but not feasible when it is raining!

Have you tried one of those rattle bottles (the plastic bottle with pebbles in)? Sounds like a good example of when one of these would come in handy.
My lab was afraid of the hoover, the ironing board and lawn mower but if I put a biscuit on top of the hoover while it was on she was brave enough take it.

she isnt frightened of the hoover, she tries to 'kill' it - never thought of trying the bottle and pebbles, somehow though dont think that will bother her one atom.
I used a water pistol. Despite the fact my dog loves water, he hates being 'shot' in the face. Just have to say Water Pistol, and he starts behaving. Stops him barking at the postman too!
Hi again pmjblue it wouldnt be the rough collie would it.? Haha I have the same trouble with my dog Ben. Amber just couldnt care less but Ben will not stop the same as yours. I have also tried everything but without any luck. I also have trouble with his constant barking when I am at home alone, if anyone comes to the door or the telephone rings. When husband around he really tries hard to not bark. good luck at Crufts this week. yes well, she likes water and if I aim it at her face she tries to catch it!!! was hoping someone had a miraculous cure! My husband can stop her attacking her, but she just runs off upstairs barking.

thanks brenda, its not this dog I am taking to crufts, I am taking my little tri who is so laid back, she thinks the other one is a nutter. In fact my other two roughs who I dont have any more used to be the same with the hoover, and the hose pipe.
My jack russell used to "kill" the hoover but the bottom line was he was frightened of it and it came out as agression. I did a similar biscuit thing as Yvonne but kept it in my hand and got him to walk behind me when hoovering. It took a while but worked eventually.

thanks Tillys mom (I have a Tilly too - but this one is a very very naughty Tara!) - I dont understand how she can be frightened of it, although she can be a bit skitso when she is out if she doesnt like something. But nothing seems to frighten her in the house, and apart from this she is a little angel and loves cuddles, in fact she is a bit of a lap dog - I am thinking of videoing the whole thing and earning 200 on 'dogs do the naughtiest things'! - I will give the biscuit a try though. Thanks
I don't think it's a case of being scared-more of a dislike of the noise. My collies go mad at it, but they do the same when an aerosal is being sprayed. What's so scary about that!?
