Tried to answer but it got lost in cyberspace so I'll try again.

Yes there is a big difference. Anyone can write out a pedigree. If a dog is KC registered there will be a certificate and the parents will both have been registered.

Just having a pedigree doesn't mean that they are even purebred, although sometimes breeders let a dog go cheaper if it isn't show quality (maybe a colour fault) and they don't want it bred from or shown.

Sometimes someone will have a litter from their pedigree registered bitch but the dog isn't registered (or the other way round) so they canot register the puppies.

There is also another scheme called the Dog Lovers Registration Club (DLRC) which issue registration certificates, but you can register absolutely anything with them and they have no records of pedigrees etc. If you dog is registered with them you cannot show it or register puppies with the Kennel Club.

Puppy farmers often write out pedigrees for their puppies, as the parents may not be registered, and even if they are, they cannot register more than six litters from one bitch or if they are over 8 years old, and licensed breeders cannot register puppies from a bitch more than once a year.

It is a case of 'caveat emptor' - let the buyer beware. If you buy a dog without KC registration you have no comeback.

The best way is to contact the Kennel Club who will give you a list of puppies available in the breed you are interested in, or put you in touch with the breed club who have a list of members who breed.

Problem is reputable breeders often get the blame when dogs suffer from health problems and people have bought them from unscrupulous breeders who have not done any health checks. Breed clubs are constantly trying to eradicate health problems from their breeds but this is not helped by breeders who sell dogs on the cheap because they have not been checked or already have problems.

thankyou lankeela! thats made things a lot clearer! thanks again for your excellent advice!!!
Might not know much but I do know me pedigrees!
I have been fighting with KC over the way my breeder has been breeding and omg, what is the point of the KC, my pedigree papers are worthless,

I have been told that even tho my dog's h/s are well above the breed standard there is nothing to stop me breeding my dog and registering the litter with the KC, You only need to hip score and other checks if you are an accredited breeder and then who checks them.

ALL breeders should do the relevant health tests for their chosen breed NOT just accredited breeders.

And if you don't know what tests are needed you shouldn't breed
Sadly most of what you say is true. However, if people who bought the puppies made sure the health checks were done then people who breed without doing them would have no market for their puppies. There is enough information around that is easy to access that no-one can say they don't know. Would you buy a car without an MOT or registration document?

Same as puppy farmers, if people did not buy from them they would go out of business. So would people who breed from unregistered stock.

The Kennel Club only runs a registration service, and although I would like them to register only health tested dogs, this would deny them the a large slice of their income.
I wholeheartly agree with what you are saying Iankeela, however when you pay top whack for your puppy from a respectable breeder (who you have made comments on in a previous post) you do not expect to be lied to.

I never brougt my dog to breed, but with regards to breeding him, this right has now been taken away from me. Isn't that one of the reasons you pay good money for a good pedigree. I probably would have got a better pedigree if I had gone to a rescue centre.

On my five generation pedigree, which shows my dogs parents, grand parents etc shows on paper that my dog has got a fab pedigree; it shows the dogs with low hip scores and under the breed standard. So my breeders under the KC breeding scheme have done nothing wrong, they have mated two dogs with low hip scores, and this is why they are allowed to register the dogs with the Kennel Club, however they have dismissed aunties/uncles/siblings that have HD and really bad Hip Scores.

But in this wonderful world of the dog breeding; breeders don't need to take into consideration any litters in previous litters or any other dogs in the bloodline that have also produced litters that have HD, as long as they continue to breed two dogs with low hipscores they are doing nothing wrong.

soo kennel club registered or pedigree can be seen! is there a difference?

my opinion NO
