No offence Marj, but I'm a bit concerned about why you want a dog. Poodles, even the toy ones are smart feisty little dogs and have hunting ancestors. I'm probably misunderstanding you but the way you have phrased your question suggests to me that you want an accessory, rather than a live demanding piddling pooing, chases cats, gets fleas, needs worming, rolls in **** (and eats it too) throws up on the carpet, needs walking companion. A dog, any dog is for life, not just for a cute name...If I am wrong then I apologise unreservedly and withdraw this comment.
Beau?
Yves, Luc,Gilles, Serge, Jules, Hugues, Jean,

Louis, Didier, Henri, Anton, Pascal.

Why not call it after the biggest poodle of modern time...Tony!!
How about Merde Caniche.
yo i think they just wanted ideas for french names woofgang. i dont know where u got all that from.

Well, Woofgang, after having rough collies, all five of them, over the years, I am opting for a little pup that will be a joy to train, and one that does not moult. With an asthmatic husbund it seems a logical choice. Thank you to those who took my request seriously.
Marj I dunno about the name itself; the usual rule is to choose a short name with a clear consonant as first letter Pascal or Beau rather than, say, Cheri or Charles ( the dog responds to the hard sound better). Know about poodles though; have two examples out of 5 breeds here; family bred them once. One of the two most intelligent breeds ( the other is the border collie);exceptionally easy to train; loves water ( bred to retrieve ducks) so beware when near ponds etc; easy to trim it yourself if you choose a simple 'lamb cut' all over.; perfect for asthmatics; long lived; astonishingly agile ( our 11 year old one can still climb a 2,80 metre chain link fence to get at bitches). Great fun. Enjoy your purchase.
How about Bijou ( = Jewel)?
As I said, Marj, if I am wrong then I apologise unreservedly. As a dog lover yourself, I know that you will understand the pain and sorrow that can follow when perfectly nice people who shouldn't have dogs decide to have one for the wrong reasons. I figure its worth shooting my mouth off on occasion and risking being completely wrong if it will lessen the pain and sorrow. How about Cherie for a lady dog or Maurice for a male?
Gaston
