A dog
lhasa apso is a breed of a dog small toy breed.....
...But can easily be mistaken for a yapping mop...
I'm with Clanad - anything smaller than a collie is frightening. You might step on it, trip over it or accidently throw it out with the rubbish.

Big dogs are best = cuddly and great bed warmers.
Hi Wolf, Ive known a few dogs like that as well ;-)

Wolf63 you are wrong about small dogs. I have had several amazing Irish Wolfhounds, a wonderful St. Bernard, two very messed up rescue Great Danes (after which I, my garden and my house desperately needed rescuing I may add!) a beautiful Irish Setter, a totally crazy Cocker Spaniel and now have a very intelligent and perceptive Shih-Tzu ( but he is fairly big for his breed). ALL were absolutely delightful dogs!! If you don't think so, have a look on my site :

My Sammy (Shih-Tzu) is like my Irish Wolfhound Finnegan and my Irish Setter were, a very perceptive dog. If I am in pain he will go and get someone to help me, then come back and stay with me until I am better again. He does the same for my mother and for anyone staying in my home. He has won several good citizenship awards, is fabulous with children and is about to become a PAT dog. Mind you, he is convinced he is really a big dog, even has a dark low bark, but only barks to alert or warn of danger. So you see, little dogs can be great too. I will admit though that I am partial to my Irish Wolfhounds and look forward to Sammy having one as a buddy some day.
Point of information nessienoo, Lhasa Apsos are not a Toy breed they are in the Utility group.
Additionally, the breed takes its name from the sacred city of Lhasa in Tibet. For at least two thousand years the breed was only bred in Tibet by holy men and nobles. It was used as a watchdog in temples and monasteries, and was considered sacred, for when its master died, his soul was thought to enter the Lhasa Apso's body. Which explains the foul nature of the one that I know... "John... is that you?"
to be honest I have a dislike of Jack Russells and tiny dogs you can stick in your pocket.

Dogs are like people, some you like and some you don't. I have had two dogs, both were big dogs and they were very different in character.

Cats - now, they are all evil and manipulative and use humans as slaves. I am getting a new slave master soon.

you're a glutton for punishment Wolf63 !!! though truly, I think you enjoy every moment
I think I agree with Wolf63 and Clanad. In fact I kind of feel sorry for those really little dogs. Imagine going for a walk where, for every human step you'd have to do about a dozen, alternatively imagine spending half your life being lugged around in a handbag. Ah, it's a dog's life. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't they have to pee every 15 minutes or so as well.

On the other hand I've found them to be quite surprisingly intelligent for their size, and also with a knack for outliving larger dogs... but they still don't look as nice as big hairy types. :o)
