How would you describe an elderly woman who knows that a stray cat has had a litter of kittens in a pampas grass clump, so she sets the clump on fire and burns the kittens to death? She is a retired schoolteacher, regular churchgoer, singer in the choir, boasts about all the charities she gives money to, and has even been known to feed stray adult cats - but she gets rid of the kittens in the cruellest way imaginable. She lives in a nice bungalow and is comfortably off. She is not mentally ill, suffering from dementia, a hooligan, or a hoodie. Please tell me what you think. I am unable to get my head round this.

I'd call her an evil old bitch, probably to her face too. How anyone can do this is beyond me I'm afraid. Animal cruelty is one of the few things guaranteed to make my blood boil.

How did you hear about this? News story? If it's someone you know I'd have no problems reporting her to the RSPCA (not that they'd probably do anything!) and I'd also take great pleasure in telling her that as well.

Evil, wicked thing to do- how this 'thing' can sleep at night flummoxes me!
How do you know this has happened?
What are you doing about it?

That's the questions I want to ask!
Ditto...... If you have proof of this, do something about it!

If this is true, it's no good winding yourself into a tizzy about it - do something. Call the RSPCA and let them deal with it.

(Not trying to justify this but...) I find this awful, but remember that older people have different standards. Even 30 years ago I can remember kittens being drowned, by the bucket-load. People weren't as sentimental about animals as they are now.
a sick bitch , if this is true you should be reporting her to the appropriate authorities, if i knew anyone that had done that i'd personnaly go round and have it out with them as well as reporting them, anyone who can harm animals must be seriously sick in the head.
I have to disagree with you saanen. She is mentally ill.
What an evil bitch! I hope you do report her, I've found some church going people to be very cruel, almost as though they think they can commit an evil act but by going to church they will somehow be forgiven. As Catso says, I remember kittens and puppies being drowned at birth, my mum was forever bringing them home to save them from this fate. Had quite a houseful of pets when i was a kid!
thats horrible, report her to the police!! or the cats protection league.
Its disgusting, what a nasty horrible woman!
good grief! if i knew who she was i would let everyone know what she is doing , report her to the RSPCA, and then go round to her house to let her know that everyone knows what she's done and what an evil person she is, ( if my wife knew her she would go round and belt the bitch) .
Report her to everyone, the RSPCA, Police, Cat Protection League, her Vicar, neighbours, AND the firebrigade, if she managed to set Pampas Grass on fire at this time of year she must have used something dangerously flamable, might not be illegal, but worth a try.

Don't sit and do nothing
if you know this evil witch and/or where she lives, take a digital photo of her and then make copies, with a brief story on what she is capable of, then either put them thru nearby letterboxes and in the local shops etc - maybe then when her neighbours "black ball" her, she'll get the message that she is not welcome. I don't and never have had cats (I prefer dogs), but I find this type of cruelty towards any creature despicable...what a sad, lonely woman...

Thanks for your answers - I posted this yesterday because I was very down about it. To all who expressed concern - it was reported, the police and animal rescue workers came, forensics, photographers, the lot. The pathetic wee bodies were taken away for forensic analysis. Hopefully she is going to be prosecuted. With regard to the RSPCA, we don't have that where I live - we have the equivalent, which is the USPCA. It was reported to them, too, and they did diddly squat - didn't even return the call. No surprise there. I am very tempted to write the woman's name and address, and post a photo of the wee bodies. I will never get over it.
Glad something has been done.
I hope she rots in hell !! I read this story at the beginning of the week, but when I replied my computer crashed!!! It too has played on my mind.....I would enlighten everyone who knows her just what a dispicable thing she has done and see what response she gets. Evil, evil woman!!!! Let us know saanen the outcome, if she is prosecuted, response from neighbours etc. I would be curious to know

I think they used to get rid of kittens in 'the old days' when they just couldn't find homes for them and they probably could'nt afford to have their cats spayed. It's still horribly cruel, I know, but nowadays there's no excuse like that. The Rspca will take them and there are kittens for sale for about 50 and they go quite quickly. I think the old lady must be insane and should certainly be made accountable. Please make sure she doesn't get away with it.If you get no 'legal' joy then how about ringing your local paper.
put her address on here & i'll do it for you!
I would agree that she is evil. How can someone who professes to be Christian be so wicked to one of God's creatures. I've come across other people who preen themselves about going to church yet they do and say the most appalling things about other people. This woman sounds typical of those.
I'm pleased the police are doing something. I would be tempted to follow the case and insist something is done. I would also be tempted to go to her church and have a quiet word with her vicar/priest etc. Say it is really bothering you and let it be known what she did.

Just to let everyone know that it is on the front of the local weekly paper today - complete with the photo of the dead kittens and the report of the wee survivor.
Everyone in the place knows who it was who did it (she lives in a small village beside a larger town) so i would think the neighbours are not going to be very nice to her. i certainly won't. The police and animals rights people have been there all week, taking away cats to the sanctuaries. I hope that woman dies a horrible death.
Hi, I am saddened to my very core after ready this thread, how anyone could do such an evil act is beyond comprehension. I'm glad that I dont live near her as I would end up serving time for what I would do to her, she doesn't deserve to walk this earth.

Its too late for the kittens she has so callously killed, but I pray that she has an horrilbe painful end to her evil pathic life. X X X :-(
well said for us all cat woman, wholeheartedly agree with you.

Thanks for all your posts - it did me good to be able to read what others had to say about it. I just want to say something about what Catso said. This is not meant as a criticism of you personally, Catso, but I think it is wrong to say that kittens were drowned in the past because people were not as sentimental about animals as they are today. I take issue with your use of the word sentimental. Being called sentimental about something implies that you are over-emotional about it. I don't think that refusing to allow people to drown or burn kittens has anything to do with sentimentality. It has to do with a rational, reasoned recognition of the rights of animals to live in this world free from pain caused by deliberate acts of cruelty by humans. That is not sentimentality. It is willingness to give to other sentient beings the same consideration that we, the higher order animals, expect for ourselves.
Having said all this, I would still like to see this woman die a horrible death!!
