They will have a blood stained mucous discharge as the cervix dilates.
Scratching up bedding, and turning circles. Panting, and then contractions. By then its too late, they're on their way!

Good luck, you could be in for a long night.
we've got a springer who's pregnant, day 58 to 59, last night she was scratching up the bedding in the kennel, panting crying and generally restless. But this morning was just tired. rang the vet and everything seems ok

she hasnt actually got any milk coming from her nipples yet, or any discharge, so could they be due in a couple of days?

sorry to take over your thread poquosonmom!

all my lovexxxx
any news yet poquosonmom?

cherryelm.... you asked if there was any news.....not yet. She is actually my sons beagle. She is having some mucous discharge and bless her heart her belly looks like it is about to drag the ground. I put some of the cedar shavings for bedding in her dog house and spread it around. Also I put a towel in for her. She put it all in a pile.
This is her first litter.
Thanks for asking. I may have answered your question in the wrong place but This is the first time for me on the site and that is the only way I knew to do it.
Don't worry you answered in the right place. I hope things happen soon a first litter is hard both on the dog and the owner but it shouldn't be long now.

cherryelm........The beagle had her puppies, late last night or early this morning. I was checking on her late around 10:30 or so and she was fine. Went out to check on her around 9 this morning and she had had them. They were already cleaned up and trying to nurse. She had six of them. Really cute.
Congratulations aren't they fantastic when they are first born? Well aren't they fantastic full stop.

cherryelm......They are very cute and precious. She ended up after some time having the 7th one but it died. We thought that she was done but evidently not. I am not for sure if the 7th one was still born or what but it was already dead when we went and checked on her again. All of the others seem fine so far although one of them lost an ear someway or the other. Not for sure exactly what happened. I know the moms have to bite and lick and clean all of the yuck off after birth and what have you. I am only guessing it happened then, it seems fine though and does not seem to bother it.
She (the mom) is doing great so far with them. She won't hardly leave their sides. VERY protective of them. For a first time mom she is doing excellent.
