my cat keeps going back to our old house!

i moved house about 6 wks ago, kept my cat in for 3 wks but when i let him out he went missing, thankfully 2 days later he was found in the garden of our old house, which is only about 1/4mile away. i kept him in again for few days but when i let him out again the same thing happened, he returned to our old house. once again he is grounded, but what do i do now? is he ever going to get the message that we've moved or will he continue to go back 'home'?
