They sure can, if you want them to have the same heart and health problems we do! Your dog is better off eating a good dog food, unless you take the time to ensure that they have a 'healthy' diet. Baked chicken or something like that, but not a greasy fried burger and definitely not chocolate!
Be careful if you give him baked chicken as Sensei has suggested. Chicken bones are very dangerous for dogs. Never ever give them chicken bones
..or have a look at: article 1082

I have had 6 dogs through my life (I am over 50) and none of them have been fed "dog food". I usually cook for them but when I do not have time (very often) I feed them what I eat, considering that I eat very simple food, fresh and not very condimented. They have been very healthy and very pleasant to be around, beautifull too.

I read several articles about dog nutrition and in most of them Kibble is recomended. I do not understand why, is it more natural? Does it grows on trees? When kept in the garage for 5 years will not spoil, is it food?

I recomend to any body I care for to feed their dogs what you eat, if it has not killed you it will not kill your dog. Dogs anathomy is very symilar of that of humans.

Chicken and rice is very good for dogs....and its basically the main ingredient in a lot of dog foods anyways.  However, you give em chicken.you know what your giving em.  And...as said before DO NOT FEED CHICKEN BONES....chicken bones splinter...and even the smallest splinter can cause a MAJOR infection in the stomach, intestines or bowel.
Many foods that we eat - particularly processed foods - contain high quantities of salt + artificial colourings and additives. I would strongly recommend using only a quality, complete dog food that contains none of the above (small amounts of salt are ok). We do give our Labrador the occasional scrambled egg - egg is a good source of protein for dogs. He may also get a very small amount of fresh cooked meat occasionally. Changing a dog's diet often is also not good for them & tends to result in 'fussy eaters'. If you have any concerns about how your pet food is tested, have a look at www.buav.org where you will see the companies who are not involved in any cruel testing as well as some who are (you may be surprised at some of the latter).
