Does anyone know how I can fulfill a long held ambition to scratch a tapir behind its ears? People gain comfort from swimming with dolphins but for me its the tapir every time! Is there anywhere which allows one to one tapir contact?

Hi Mumble, we all have strange ambitions, contact tour local zoo and explain to them, i'm sure they'll help you out.
Can't help you with your ambition. Is there a logical reason why you have such a strange yearning?

The tapirs in Singapore zoo can be scratched, but you have to be lucky to be there when they are close to the fence. A bit far to go for a scratch though.

If this ambition is causing you serious discomfort you can scratch me between the ears if you like, you keep your eyes closed and I'll make a snorting noise. Well, it might work - you never know.
I have no idea where you could realise your dream but I saw a tapir at Chester Zoo a few weeks back and was shocked at the length of it's dingly dangle, it was dragging along the floor!!!!

Just thought I'd share that, I was quite traumatised by the sight and felt sorry for Mrs tapir!!!!

Lonnie and wildwood. Thanks! I can't explain it. Tapirs have just conquered my inner being! It might be to do with their bundly, ungainly appearance, their mild natures, their beautiful and humorous eyes or their delicious snorty squeal.
Wildwood, if ever I come across you on my path through life i would be delighted to scratch you between your ears and listen to your snorting noise. I am sure it would do much to assuage my passion.

Talking of passion, Kate 1976, thankyou for sharing your vision with us. Perhaps Mrs Tapir goes for lengthy dingly dangles. You never know. The species continues to produce babies, and deliciously stripy they are too.
kate ... you mean that your dingly dangle isn't meant to drag on the floor? ... damn, I'll have to get that seen to
