Do female rabbits spray? I have recently found a white substance all over the inside of my rabbit hutch. She is about 6 months old and not been spayed yet.

Could it possibly be mould from the urine? thats what it used to be with my male rabbit! I bought a cat litter tray and filled it with newspaper then sawdust and a few droppings and my rabbit soon got used to using this as his toilet instead, it meant the hutch was saved and it was easier to clean out as well!

Hope this helps x

Thank you but no it definitley isn't that, the hutch is plastic and I wipe it down inside with hutch-clean every week. This just suddenly appeared in the space of a day; drips down one side and a puddle on the floor. ???

It could be that the consistency of her urine has changed because of what she's been eating. My male rabbit suffered from this from time time - it was to do with getting too much calcium in his diet and can damage the rabbit's kidneys if left untreated. it's a particular problem in rabbits fed on pellets I think.

Probably worth talking to your vet about it to be on the safe side.

What are you feeding her? Does she get timothy hay or alfalfa?

Like SueMaggie, I think it is most likely calcium in her urine. You have to be very careful since too much calcium can cause kidney stones. Have a look at these websites for more info about calcium and diet in bunnies:

Rabbit urine can come in a vast variety of colours and indeed textures from bright red or milky yellow to white. The colour, more often than not, has no bearing on the health of the animal. They are a just an animal that has a wide repertoire of urine types. I have spent many a unpleasant day scrubbing exactly the encrustation of dried urine you have described from the cages of many hundreds of completely healthy rabbits.
