I have an 18 month old Labrador who never barks. He growls in his sleep, but that's about it. Our vet says he's in perfect health. Is this normal?

My parents dog is the same - he's a GSD X, is 12 years old - only ever heard him bark once and he scared himself so much he ran under the kitchen table to hide from the noise! It was very funny! Every now and then when someone comes to the door he makes a slight noise but it never actually turns into a bark.

I don't think its anything to worry about, maybe he just doesn't have anything to say.

We have a 10 year old Akita, he howls in his sleep, doesn't make a sound if someone is at the door, but once a month he senses that the window cleaner is due and barks non stop until the job has been done!

my springer's 10 months old and he only barks when u say "talk" like on its me or the dog.

u should be pleased he doesnt bark

I know it's not the same, but I've never heard my cat miaow! She's four now, but I don't think she knows how- even when someone stood on her tail (accidentally). We've an older cat too, who miaows all the time when he's hungry but she will just purr. She's very sweet though, if a bit stupid x
Could be worse ours NEVER shuts up she always has an opinion on EVERYTHING,that is worse believe me.
We have a couple of golden retrievers (a boy and a girl). The male barks, but we've never heard the female bark at all, and we've had them over 10 years!

We used to have a Labrador who until he was 2 years old never barked. Then one day, when he'd had enough of the little Yorkshire Terrier down the road barking at him every time he walked past the gate, he barked back and sounded like a seal barking!!! After that he barked as and when and eventually sounded like a real dog. Don't worry, unless you want a guard dog!
