We have been adopted by a sweet little cat who speeds a lot of time in the garden. She has recently started scratching herself a lot and I'm pretty certain she has fleas as I have been bitten. We have tried a couple of things tablets in her food and Bob Martin spot on (which was a nightmare to apply) I have also given her a good brush and she is moulting a lot. I wondered if anyone has 'foolproof ' suggestions please

Bob Martin doesn't work...speak to your vet about more effective treatment. There are treatments that last up to 3 months.
For indoors, spray every room with Indorex flea spray. Kills existing fleas... and their eggs. Effective for 6 months. Cheapest is usually Amazon.

Thanks Pasta? Very helpful
I've recently discovered these tablets. They're easy to hide in a cat's food and seem to be doing the job:

(Scroll down to the reviews. There's page after page of nothing but praise for the treatment).

Bob Martin sell the same treatment too:

Thanks Chris. The tablets we tried were the Bob Martin which actually made no difference she was still scratching like mad. Will give the others a try if you have tried them and they work
Margo I take it she comes into your home? Is so it will be infected with them now so you need to get rid of flea eggs as well as fleas in your rugs, furniture, between floor boards, everywhere the cat has been. Here are some suggestions to help you get rid. Good luck and bless you for looking after her.

Here's a link for the Indorex...just in case ;)...and yes, I've used it.

You might want to check if she is a walking kitten factory.

If she is a "trap, neuter, release" she will have a notch in an ear to show she has been speyed. I use Bravecto for my cats either pill or drops, very effective and lasts 4 to 5 months
You need to remember that flea bites can itch for at least a week or two (and possibly for far longer). So no treatment will seem to be an instant fix. (i.e. if you use flea treatment on/in a cat now, the cat will still be scratching the old bites for quite some time, even if the flea treatment has completely eliminated every flea).
Aww, bless you, Margo for re-homing her. I hope you will soon be rid of the fleas. Did you call her "Minnie" by chance? ;)

(Sorry to pick up on your typo x)
I have had a recent issue with my moggies, unfortunately Frontline (and it's active ingredient Fipronil) appears not to work any longer - apparently fleas have evolved and built up resistance! I then tried Advantage which has a different active ingredient, and used Indorex,as mentioned above, to spray the bedding etc. I also used fleabombs from Amazon to decontaminate the rooms... And Johnsons flea tablets (these can be used whenever you see fleas on your cat) Unfortunately the fleas are back! GAH! Highly recommend using Amazon or Pets UK for buying said products as they are much cheaper than in the pet store.
Also, you will need to worm kitty, again cheaper to buy online, as fleas mean worms sadly.
We use something called Ectoline which we get from our local pharmacy. I can only assume it works as we've never had fleas on any of our five cats.

Thank you all very much for your helpful advice.
Choux- I didn't see that typo! By a strange coincidence Minnie was my nickname for many years, after Minnie Bannister in the Goon Show. When she first arrived the cat obviously didn't respond to anything but I kept saying she was a little madam and one day she came to me - so Madam is her name now:-)
