My beautiful boy Bruno was attacked in the park this morning by a much bigger dog. It came from nowhere around a bend and just launched itself at my boy grabbing hold of his neck. Bruno is a big dog too but as gentle as a lamb but he tried to fight this dog off. There was blood everywhere and he was screaming at one terrible point our eyes locked and his were pleading. I tried and tried to kick the brute off him and I was yelling and yelling for help. There was nobody a sould around and the dog seemed to be alone. Then as suuddenly as it appeared it ran off and disappeared and my boy was lying mortally wounded on the ground and crying pitifully. I was still screaming and screaming for help and two men on the other side of the path heard me and came running over. They were wonderful, they picked him up between them ever so gently and we went to the flat of one of them and got his car. Bruno is now at the emergency vet's in a very, very bad way. The vet doesn't hold out too much hope as the injuries are horrendous. He is drugged up to the eyeballs so he won't be feeling pain. She has sent me home so I can clean myself up, I'm covered in b ood and told me to go back when I feel up to it and she will ease him gently on his way. I can't believe it, I can't believe it. He was well and happy this morning and now he's at death's door becasue of a vicious dog that seemed to be running around on its own. Where's the owner ????? What can I do, I can't report it to the police, they are not interested in dog on dog attacks - pity I didn't get bitten, they would have acted then. I live alone that dog was my life, my woofer I called him and now he's leaving me and he won't want too, he won't want too Oh God, Oh God. Help me Please help me. I'll never get over this, I'll see it in my minds eye for the rest of my days and I'll hear his screams. And his eyes oh God his eyes. My beautiful, friendly boy. My boy. I'm in so much pain.

Please take comfort in the knowledge that Bruno loved you as much as you loved him.X
iluvmargie - I know that you often advise that you don't read my posts, but I hope you make an exception for this one -

My heart goes out to you at this most awful time, and I offer every sympathy for your tragic loss.

When we embark on a relationship with any pet, we undertake the knowledge that there is going to be pain at the end of it, because they will leave us before we leave them.

That said, we expect our beloved companions to pass after a long and happy life, going to sleep peacefully and leaving us with long memories of a wonderful life lived with us.

Because of the horrible vagaries of fate, that has been denied to you, and to your boy, and he has been taken far too soon.

When the dreadful pain that engulfs you now starts eventually to recede a little, you will remember all the good times with him, and you will know that he loved you, and you were with him during his last moments, and hopefully that will comfort you.

His loss will leave a massive void in your life, but I hope that, again with the passage of time, his memory will not be how cruelly and suddenly he left you, but all the wonderful times he shared with you.

If he could talk, that is what he would say to you, and you have to remember that it is true, and use that thought to hang on to during the dark times when his loss is still so raw and painful.

I hope you will come on and let us all know how you are coping - you have a lot of friends on here to support you during this difficult time, and we all send our love and best wishes to you.

Take good care.

A x.
I am so, so sorry. Words cannot convey. Devastating.
I’m shedding tears for you both as I write. Life can be so cruel and unfair. God bless you both.
I'm so so sorry, I can't even imagine the pain you're in after losing a beloved friend in such a traumatic way. My thoughts are with you.

I really hope that the police come back to you. I agree with others about not lying, especially as it might turn out that there are witnesses or camera footage. Another consideration, which might also help the police investigate, is contacting the local press for any witnesses, such as the men who came to help you if you don't have their details, or anyone who might have camera footage.

It's likely that someone will know, or have a good idea, who the dog belongs to and others may have other useful information, if it's done something like this, before or has been aggressive to others, if it's let out to roam. It's also a warning to others in the area to take care to try and prevent this happening again.
So sorry to read this horrendous news. Please report this - you need to inform the police you were scared for your own safety. When this happened to a friend of mine people on a local facebook page were asked to help identify the dog/owner and it was reported to the police - turned out the dog had been rehomed by a rescue without any home checks. The owner of the rescue was taken to court as the dog was still officially 'owned' by them. Please remember your lovely boy and all the good times - and be glad the vet was able to prevent him suffering any more.
Keep thinking of ILM again n again. Just so sad
Really heartbreaking reading what happened to your dog, Bruno, and for you to witness it, that's just awful.
Me as well Eve, I can't get her off my mind. Nothing one can say to comfort her really.
Me too. An awful tragedy that never should have happened. I also just don't know what to say, except thinking of you, margie and Bruno xx
I'm the same...it's going to stay with me for a while.
I think we are all putting ourselves in iluvmargie's place.

Such tragic news and i really do hope the police discover just who owns the dog and takes the necessary steps. There are those who just should not be allowed to own pets.
I didn't post earlier as I had no idea what to say, that hadn't already been said. Rather than teying to be original, just accept my condolences, and my desperate hope that the animal (both dog and owner) responsible for this is caught before there are further victims to hold them accountable for.
On a different note, it makes you wonder what sort of people use AB, that such a thread has had to have several answers deleted.
Mozz, it wasn't anything bad. A poster posted here by mistake, and I asked if he'd made a mistake, he asked how to get it moved and I directed him to the right places..Ed, and contact us
