We have a very local, very lovely lady who looks after our dog in her own home whenever we need her too, if she isn’t already booked up.
He sleeps on her bed (he’s not even allowed upstairs in our house)is taken for lots of walks, and is generally spoilt to bits by her, he absolutely loves her and greets her like one of the family.
She will take two dogs at a time, three at a push if they all get on. There are a couple of dogs who have to be looked after by themselves due to being rather unsociable.
We much prefer her set up to the kennels we’ve had to use occasionally in the past, even though the kennels get very good reviews and we’ve been confident he’ll be well looked after and safe there.
What do you do with your dog during holiday or other times when he needs to be looked after elsewhere?

^ the last one from piggynose that is.
We always had dogs when I was growing up and holidays were a rare thing, on the odd occasion we went away the pets would stay with my Grandma.

The thread has meandered along as threads have a way of doing. As long as it doesn’t turn nasty it can go whichever way it goes as far as I’m concerned.
Just keep it nice please people :)
I don’t have a dog but I have a cat who I can’t bear to leave. I’ve had cats before and would happily leave them at home with someone coming in to feed them. This one is different.

People roll their eyes at me when I say I can’t go on holiday because of the cat. But, you animal lovers know...

I had a special cat CloverJo. Her name was Alice. Whether dogs, cats, or other pets if we love them what does it matter. I have loved all our pets over my lifetime. All special, but some more special than others.
This thread has gone to the dogs! Your fault piggynose ;o)

Sorry Vagus x
Well lots of you took it as the start of a spat as I expected. I simply stated that on the first page nearly everybody said words along the lines of they don't go anywhere if the dogs can't come too. They really did. And then Apc said no-one has indicated that they don't leave their dogs and I just saw lots of answers that to me say we don't leave our dogs. Why can't these topics because discussed in a normal fashion?
I just pointed out what I'd read and then get loads of why did I make that comment? One thing's for sure, not much added on here from people who do use kennels - and lots do, they're always full.

/Of course people sometimes have to leave their dogs. Nobody has indicated otherwise./

We’ve put our dog in kennels a fair few times, before we found our lovely dog minder. And would put him in again if necessary, if it meant it was the only way we could get to see our family.
He’s actually staying with the dog minder over Christmas so we can spend it with our little grandson 200 miles away, makes it far less stressful for all of us and means we can devote ourselves to the baby instead of worrying if dog will get over enthusiastic and accidentally hurt him.
Our family always come first...but dog comes a very close second ;)

Apc, no problem:)
I love my dogs very much but I try and take 1 holiday without them.
As for my cats I have a cat sitter come in for those hooligans
I have no problems with using kennels for my hounds
