I have just heard him interviewed on the Today Program, regarding his new book on Ali.

But I noticed that his speech was slurred.....does anyone know if he has had a stroke, or something similar ?

mikey...can't help typing this.......is It Parkinson's Disease?
he had treatment for prostrate cancer if that is relevant ?
I haven't heard anything about his health.

But

Why does he think he is in a position to write a book on Ali?
because he was a frequent guest on his show and must have lots of anecdotes and info that public may not have ??
3 times I think ... not good enough imo.
maybe he wants good use from that free pen !!

When was the other occasion, hc?
mp is a journalist and an author - so presumably he knows how to research and write, he has also interviewed Ali several times so i'm not sure why you think he isn't good enough to write a book on him?

i could write a book on him if i wanted.... ok it would be very short and a bit rubbish, but i could....

Talbot....what on earth has it got to do with you, if MP decides to write a book about Ali or not ! Why shouldn't he ?....Jeez !

Very funny Sqad....but the slurring was definitely noticeable this morning.

Talbot - Mr Parkinson was a well respected sports journalist before he became a chat show host and spent his time giving soft cues for boring celeb stories, and wondering when Jamie Cullum was coming on.
lol Andy !! or Bublé !

I said imo ... or have you now decreed that if you don't agree I am not allowed an opinion?

I think Parkinson has a biased view of Ali, says he was a beautiful human being.

Would a beautiful human being treat another human being the way Ali did Joe Frazier?

Will I get any honest answers to that?

Possibly Talbot, but perhaps on your own thread.

I am concerned about MP, and that is why I asked the question.
In terms of Mr Parkinson's perception of Mr Ali - I am sure we all form impressions of people based on how they are when we meet them, and this will naturally colour our view, and the way we speak of them.

Plenty of people say that Paul Weller is a pleasant person to deal with - I met him over twenty years ago and he was rude to me, so that colours my perception of him.

It's human nature.
And I enjoyed my little chat with him.
mikey....slurred speech.......that could be due to many things of which a stroke is one of them. He has been treated for prostate cancer, but unless it was quite advanced, and still is, i would have thought that an association was unlikely.
Interesting times ahead if what you have spotted is correct.
Maybe, as a keen cricket fan, he had been drowning his sorrows after England's performance this morning.
Question Author
Sqad....it was obvious immediately he started to speak.

I have always enjoyed watching and listening to MP. It might be old-fashioned now to say this but his Saturday night chat shows gave me an opportunity to see the old, real stars of Hollywood, and for that I am grateful.

The shows with Peter Ustinov, Jonathon Miller, Richard Burton, etc. were classics in their own right....get well MP !
