My *** is feeding 7 puppies who now have claws. She tries to feed them while standing which I think is to keep their claws away. However she is very red and sore looking, with broken skin in places. Any advice?
I'll ring the vet tomorrow - it's not an emergency, but I really feel for her!

Didn't realise b**** was a dirty word!
Female dog!
How old are the puppies? Are they big enough to have the very sharp tips of their claws clipped? I had to do that. (Yes, stupid word-block!) You could try that and also a barrier cream. I have used a nappy-rash cream with success in the past. What breed?
Question Author
Just over 4 weeks. Might ask the vet about clipping, but I suspect I won't be very popular (with the puppies that is!).
Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.
Nappy rash cream is presumably safe for the pups? After all it goes on babies bottoms not in their mouths!
You couldn't make it up. b, i, t, c, h, is now a banned word.
Question Author
fair enough on other postings, but animals and nature?
Probably not allowed to say *** h**l either!
Goofy - how is the undercarriage today?

She doesn't just have claws to deal with but also sharp teeth. Ouch!
Question Author
not much different.
But she's a trooper.
Can't offer advice, but really wanted to commiserate with the new mum, poor little thing!

Hope she gets relief soon x
Did the vet not give you anything to help Goofy? It makes me cringe to even think about it.
I'm sure the vet can prescribe some cream - what did he say ?
// You couldn't make it up. b, i, t, c, h, is now a banned word.//

pog-dog was being very good outside a supermarket and some of the workers ( you know not public school Cambridge grads if you get my meaning ) asked what kind

and I said it is a b=i=t=c=h actually

and they fell about widdling themselves ( and speaking congolese french)

and I said XXX is the english word for a female dog - vous connaisez hein ?

and they just widdled themselves a bit more ( and rolled over to have their tummies tickled )
(you know not public school Cambridge grads if you get my meaning ) No, but then I seldom do!

and the fact that I understand everything you write is mine

( mutated Oscar WIlde )
indeed PP...
Question Author
good grief!
Well Goofy what DID the vet say, or do ?
Question Author
The vet said that as long as she's not hard (which she's not) to use nappy rash cream. Just as jourdain said.
Will go and get some this morning.
Thanks all
goofy try an old shirt (or towel) with strategic holes cut out and put it on your lady dog prior to feeding. takes a bit of rigging up but it does help to give her skin a bit of relief.
Question Author
don't think it would last more than 20 seconds! The towel that is.
Well it has been used on lady dogs in the same situation as yours but I'm sure you know best.
