When I was young I used to see white dog poo here and there. I have a 14 year old who has never seen White dog poo, why was it white, and when did it disappear?

When did you last see a dog gnawing a bone? Bones are a good source oof calcium and most family pets were frequently given these, both for the calcium and to strengthen their teeth. One result, of course, was that their fces were frequently white. Nowadays, packets of food are the commonest way of feeding.
Yep, agree with Quizmonster. My dog is fed mostly raw meat and marrowbones, so he sometimes does white ones too (or rather they would go white quickly if they were left to bake in the sun, betcha really wanted to know that, eh?) because they're so dry. He tends to counteract the effects by eating grass, so sometimes he'll have green ones as well!
And also (most) people clear up after their dogs these days whereas a few years ago they didn't so you would be more likely to see it in the street back then.
Does anyone remember trying to chalk with it?
smudge!

I have not visited this site for quite a long time, but now I feel at home again.  I have also thought about the lack of white dog poo recently and am so pleased to see I am not alone!!  I too think it may be a result of people clearing up after their dogs now and not leaving it to 'dry'!

Hello luc, nice to see you come back from a break to a nice, mentally stimulating topic like this.
Given that many people do not clear up after their dogs, it's pretty clear that the 'not drying out' idea cannot be particularly relevant, since fces that are left are still not white.

it was white, because after a few days of not being picked up, it was bleached by the sun.

Which is why you only ever saw white dog poo in summer.

And wasn't it ever so crumbly!

I think I'm going to throw up- crumbly white dog poo? Queasy, must sit. Close eyes. Image of white dog poo. Open eyes. Leave thread!
they used to collect it to tan leather
i asked this question in a pub quiz room chatroom the other day and one answer offered was its a sign of bowel cancer.i can seriously say ive never thought of touching dog poo white or otherwise and chalking with it!
