Fireworks Again!

My German Shepherd keeps wanting to go outside to see what all the noise is about. I let her out and she lies on the patio watching them and occasionally barks at the really loud ones. I am so lucky that neither she, nor Tilly are trying to climb the walls.

Those of you with animals who are frightened must be having a terrible time as the firework season seems to be much longer this year.

Will it never end?

Back again for New Year.....
My GSD's were the same Tilly, they'd sit at the window watching and every now and then give a little yip as if to say "that's a good one"
it must depend where you are. We've had fireworks here - some are going bang right now - but they're just pops in the distance, nothing to upset a dog (I would have thought).

Have you thought of moving into the Savoy?
My cats love them - I think that the fact that they are sitting on the windowsill and behind the double glazing helps.

When I had my last dog we used to go down to the park and the kids would be throwing the fireworks around. Robbie was a bit of a psycho so was always on the lead - it must be truly terrifying for animals. Some animals are trembling wrecks.

Having said that I think that 5/11 is a magical night for kids - but it should be restricted to that night only and only as an organised event.

What is your GSDs name?

Is that where you live, jno? Will we be neighbours? I'd like that.
My Labrador would sit in the armchair and watch through the window. He would even go outside and just sit & watch.
I too feel for the owners of animals that are frightened.
I think that some humans make the situation worse by making the dog even more anxious.

My dog had been a rescue dog and was terrified of lorries passing him. I would cuddle him and try and calm him down, not knowing that I was reinforcing the danger or lorries. He was 5 when I got him so not sure at all what his history was.
Used to have a GSD who was terrified of every bang and very difficult to calm her down so I agree Tilly that you are fortunate. Present dogs couldn't care less.

In Morrisons last week they were pushing fireworks for the New Year. B nuisance.

My GSD is called Gypsy, wolf. It was the name she had when we got her from the rescue centre. I'm not keen on it myself but it was what she was used to. It really does not suit her. She's more of a 'lady' than that.
I'm under an arch quite nearby, Tilly
Not a time I would have picked either. My two were 18 months when I got them and were called Greebo and Merlin. I wanted a little tom cat called Frankie (Greebo isn't a nice name) so I decided to change his name (chap in my avatar) but Merlin is still Merlin but she is called Princess Merlin (also known as Princess Stupid or Princess Slasher).

I like GSDs - both of dogs have been half GSD. Thinking about it now, they were both cat chasers. I can honestly say that they would find Merlin a challenge, she has a feisty nature.

Next door's cat is like that, wolf. She sits on the lawn and hisses at us when we go out for a walk. She thinks nothing of coming and sitting on our porch. One day......................!

Are you jno Flannagan or jno Allen?
Sounds like the Somme battlefields here at the moment, Yilly.
Question Author
I hope Bow isn't too frightened, Yont.
She seems ok at the moment, Yilly. Still a bit doped from all the anaesthetics I think, probably a good job she is right now.
Question Author
That's good then, Yont.
Yes it is Yilly, some of these fireworks are very loud.
Hello you too, I think gypsy is a lovely name, just add queen xx
