I haven't seen a double-yolked egg since I was a child (a very long time ago).  Do they still exist?
Its called "candling". You hold the egg in front of a bright light and you can see through the shell, enough to tell if the egg is fertile (has an embryo growing) and if there are 2 yolks. I believe that there is one manufacture who sells boxes of guaranteed double yolkers (some breed are more likely to produce them than others, I understand) but I haven't seen them to buy round me (hampshire)

...and here's a website doubleyolkers

My brother brought a box of xtra large eggs from Sainsburys and they were all double yokers
My b/f works at Sainsburys, and they sell boxes of Double Yokers as standard stock!

Interesting!  I assumed that, in this age of standardisation, they were no longer available.

I wonder if the Sainsbury's eggs contain more yolk than a single-yolk egg of the same size or if it's just a marketing gimmick?

ASDA's 'Extra Large' are often double yokers too. Great on toast, not good for your cholesterol!

SteveD,

Having had quite few "double yolkers" bought for me by my b/f,I can say that there is considerably more yolk, and abou the same amount of white.

"In this age of standardisation"? Tell that to the chickens that lay them!

I had a double yolk a few days ago (co-op eggs) - I think it was also the same day that I got plopped on the head by a bird in my garden!!

My sister recently found an egg with no yolk in! What's that all about?

It all depends on the batch, now and again you would get them, they are normally heavier. I always think its a bonus if you find one with double yolk.

No yolks? Thats a new one.

Robinia,A double yoke in the pan is worth 2 in the bush blop!!
jean88, your reply would have been infinitely funny if it began
"It all depends on the biatch"
dear shazzabelle I guess one can say that the yolk was not on your sister was it ?
