I have got a 6 yo whippet [ bitch ]. She only encounters neutered dogs and does not like doge trying anything on. She has not been spayed is it necessary or at nearly 7yo should she be left as nature intended

If she can stand the op (check with the vet) then I would spay.
I would, an unaltered dog runs a much higher risk of developing cancer of the mammary glands and pyrometra when they get older.
Definitely spay ...
If her health is good then get her speyed, it can prevent some really nasty diseases. All mine get speyed/neutered as soon as they are old enough it is better for them in the long run.
There is no reason to spay a bitch for any reason other than prevention of possible mammary tumours or pyometra (which can be fatal if left untreated or not caught in time). Both of these conditions can be treated but are not likely to occur in spayed bitches. Apart from those two conditions there is no difference between spayed and unspayed as far as the dog is concerned.
Would add that age is not a factor, I have had much older bitches spayed and these days the operation is far less traumatic than it used to be as they use much less invasive procedures and anaesthetics that are quickly reversed.
You say she only encounters neutered dogs...do you not let her off for a run then? I wouldn't take a chance unless you want some interesting offspring in the future.
Spay. If ever she got lost or even worse, was stolen, she could be used for breeding if she's not spayed. Sorry but I always think of the worst scenario.
spey - no question
Have to disagree with Lankeela - there is every reason to spey - too many unwanted puppies.
To spay or not to spey? Make your mind up, folks.
I agree with Lankeela...........As long as you keep her away from male dogs when she is in season, you arnt going to have the problem of unwanted puppies.
Agree with rsvp
I thought this was about a river....
7yo is a bit late for speying & likely to make her put on weight. As a small dog she should be easy to keep control of when in heat.
Spay,no question that it's the right thing to do..
