My dog has chiupped a bone in his 'wrist' and torn the ligaments.
Vet doesn't want to strap as changing bandages would cause too much stress and reccommends complete rest ( ????? with a dog? )
Does anyone know of herbal / natural painkillers I can buy for him please ?
Thanks in advance

I don't know of any painkillers, but do you have a crate for your dog? That's the best thing to use when they need complete rest. It's not cruel: if you introduce them to it in the right way they see it as a place of refuge and safety. Feed him in it, groom him in it, etc and then when he has to rest, shut the door and he will be happy in there.
Our Vet recommends coated baby aspirin for arthritis pain in older dog.  Seems to give relief and she's been on it for sometime with no ill affects...
Our local homeopath gave us arnica for our dog. Worked really well. They have lots of other things for animals too.
I keep low dose aspirin in for our dog. You could also ask the vet to suggest something
you could try and place magnets around the affected area, it works for humans, I know, I've been doing it for an identical human injury. I used a crate for my dog when she had an injury, she was quite happy there. for the ligaments you could try Shark Cartilage tablets from all good health shops, I used them they are good. hope your dog recovers well. and yes arnica is very good, helps shock too, you can also get Arnica gell or cream for topical treatment, but do not use on broken skin.

You shouldn't give your dog asprin unless your vet gives you specific instructions....

Talk to your vet - I am sure that they'd be able to recommend something....

I do know what you mean abou the rest.... I had a X Kelpie German Shepard who LOVED to play..... it was really hard to keep her calm with stitches!!!! I found the best thing was to sit calmly with her.... as long as I wasn't running around... she'd sit there and just lap up the attention.... Get some DVD's and some popcorn (and a treat for puppy too!!! haha)...

Hope that this helps....

why not, Marvin?
