A star in the 1960s but he seems to have fallen on hard times.

Saw him when I went with my parents to a show at the Liverpool Empire in 1964 or thereabouts.

And yes, he did split his pants ...
"Somewhere"

He would sew a piece of rubber tubing in his trousers to make it appear that he had a large penis...........;-)
Remember? I dressed up as pj proby with a puff sleeved shirt and hair in pony tail. My sister took a photo of me. This must have been about 1962 ish.
Ooh Sandy, PJ was the love of my life at one time. There's a Place for Us played every Sat night at the local dance hall. Great for a smoochie.
I remember when he split his trousers on TV.

I've heard of him, didn't he copy Elvis? Sorry to his fans if he didn't....
PS his real name is James M Smith. He'll be 74 now. Quote from press release "In 2011, Proby was charged with nine charges of benefit fraud, including two counts of failing to declare savings and investments, and four of failing to inform the authorities of a change in circumstance. He pleaded not guilty to all of them"

Don't care, still love him.
Bl@@dy scrounging immigrants!

And he had a ponytail!

Quite right, Maggiebee. Which of us hasn't done the double, or something like he's accused of, at one time or another?
well Sandy, I for one never ran off with the wife of the publican of the Salford Arms, Chapel Street Salford.
But PJ did.
I wonder what she did with his bit of hose?
Back in the early70s my mate was chairman of the P J proby fan club.

Remember "Hold Me and Somewhere."
I confess to having liked him in his day...I loved his I Can't Make It Alone and (sorry purists!) his versions of Somewere and Maria.
Hold your hand where?

be specific
have you washed it?

I too thought he was great in his day. Loved his songs
Saw him last year in Eastbourne and he was wonderful, think he's going deaf cos he had to cup his ear when he sang, but what an amazing voice for an old man. He was very smart in a white suit, and he grabbed my hand, I haven't washed it since!! It made my holiday seeing him.
