He's come in on three separate occasions today and dropped a small leaf, then a large leaf then a small stick at my feet, looked up at me, mewed then run back outside. Are these 'gifts'? Can we expect small birds, rodents and the occasional toad next?

at the very least!
Yeah, notice how the "gifts" are getting bigger? It'll be a giraffe before you know it.
It'll be a dead mouse next. Then a headless chicken.

Cats love killing.
They are gifts, snags - No. 1 Son used to do that when he was a kitten. Appreciate and praise!

...and yes, you may.... I found a frog in the cat's water dish one day, just sitting there looking apprehensive!
oh yes wait for the rabbits, they're fun, but at least they're big enough to catch, running around at 4am tryign to find a mouse whilst trying to keep the cat away at the same time, is not so funny
I still remember the live magpie.....
he's practicing... he sees you as worthy of gifts...you must be a good tin opener to have such an honour
magpies are buggers
fluffy, especially when they are sitting in your light fitting, leering down at you.

Rabbit?! He's still quite small so hopefully not for a while. Incidentally, the neighbour is drilling his wall and the cat is currently sitting this side, staring up at the noise and growling like a dog. Freak.
they don't appreciate being rescued
Neighbours cat had a herring gull no thats ok you can stay in the lounge I'll go somewhere else until you want to leave....
I'd growl too, if I didn't like the noise :-)
What have you called him ??? How old is he?? What colour is he ??

You wait til Spring, he'll bring you some wonderful gifts.
a growl is the least of my worries, its when she's quiet i get scared

One of my old cats used to bring home kittens from elsewhere in the neighbourhood... he was a very confused old tom...
He is absolutely blurdy gorgeous.
We had a cat a similar colour, well it was more a visitor than anything else. Ended up with the name Marmalade.
We are an imaginative lot.
Eric looks like a good mouser. (Ginger cats usually are) Just wait until spring you will get loads of presents.
some of which will be headless......
