.......a small victory for him over his former employer after the pathetic way they sacked him over a bit of sexist banter

Sexist banter that goes on in many workplaces countrywide, why can't women just have a laugh about it and give as good back?

Mostly they do.
The sacking of Grey/Keys was set around an extreme set of circumstances.

I'm glad Grey has received a payout from NI over the hacking scandal.
perhaps because it doesn't always stop at banter, having a laugh is one thng, being offended is another.

em10.....if you're offended say something back which will equally offend the bloke
Not Charlotte Jackson or any other employee actualy complained about Gray. Someone put the footage up and Sky and the media did the rest.

Huge difference between flirty banter and sexism. Most woman grit thier teeth and bare it as they want to keep thier jobs. Its bullying of the, no means yes type, and they shouldn't have to endure it.
he played for the huns, he deserves nothing
I think it was the fact it was so public that meant Sky had to do something.

The fact is, comments like that can offend a lot of people, Sky need to please their audience before they please their presenters. It was stupidity.
It's very rare you get attractive women complaining about sexism. Nor do you hardly see any female political activists whether in politics, local government or unions who are beautiful either. They dont seem to bother much with make up or fashionable clothes. It's just an observation. Is it beacuse they consider physical appearance unimportant so consequently they dont make any effort? Anyone agree even though you may not like it?

dave.....apparently Gray (and Keys) were disliked at Sky so their sexist banter was a good excuse for them to get rid of them

At places I've worked you usually quickly get to know the ones who are game for a bit of banter/innuendo and who give as good back......and also the ones to steer clear of who will run to their line manager crying sexism at the mere hint of it
if you work in an environment of all guys, and you are the only female, its not always easy to be that flippant, and jokey, i have had to stand my ground endless times, more than i care to remember, and it doesn't help when some blokes think you are fair game, not just for teasing but sexual innuendo, jokes at your expense, and indeed sexual harrassment.
If you complain you are called spoilsport or a grass if you go to the head of the department. i have had to put up with a lot of crap just to hang onto a job. If you need the money that's what you do.

Redhelen......criticising a female referees assistants ability to do the job was beyond banter?
Can someone remind me what they said that offended the women?
Is JTH's answer to em10's post?.......
Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her,” said Keys.
“Can you believe that? A female linesman. Women don’t know the offside rule,” said Gray.
Keys replied “Course they don’t. I can guarantee you there will be a big one today. Kenny (Dalglish) will go potty. This isn’t the first time, is it? Didn’t we have one before?” And then he added “The game’s gone mad. Did you hear charming [West Ham vice-chairwoman] Karren Brady this morning complaining about sexism? Do me a favour, love.”
No, sqad - it was to dave50's post.........if you look at the times, you'll see that my slower typing had redhelen and em10 get in the way.
em10...maybe..... abit naughty.....yes you are probably correct it is sexist.

But a "hanging matter ?"

it is true though, it does work the other way and women can get away with it. At a xmas party one of the girls in my office grabbed my bum right in front of our GB manager, I've had my boss and a colleague discussing openly whether my bum or my arms are my best feature. I'm not bothered because that's not me but you can't just say it's a typical male attitude when women can be just as bad.
For once I agree with joeluke, it's about working out where the line is with each individual, Andy Gray may have known where the line was with this particular woman and it may not have crossed it within their relationship, but as soon as it's public then there's a few million new lines and many of them are going to be crossed with statements like that.
