I live on the bank of the River Neckar 20 miles south of Stuttgart, and this evening at 7:00pm precisely, the first advance party of swallows arrived and came straight to explore the 6 nests under the eaves of my house. I would be interested to hear of first sightings from AB ers in the UK.

I haven't seen ours yet but it's about this time they arrive, I'll be looking out for them now Khandro.
Ours arrived about two weeks ago on Salisbury Plain.
Non in hants yet, but still waiting with baited breath :)
Excellent news Khandro - we saw them in Spain in February, on their way north. They usually arrive here about May 12, but I haven't heard the shrieking yet! There seem to be enough flying insects about - I will keep an ear out for them!

Boxtops; the ones you saw in Spain must have crossed from Africa via the Straits of Gibraltar which I once witnessed at Tarifa, and afterwards memorably rode a motorbike through a canyon surrounded by them all around me, it was the closest I have ever got to being part of their life. I was returning north to England and I felt we were bringing the Spring with us.
