When I was in Mexico I bought some objects in black stone. It's a very black shiny stone. Can anybody tell me what the name of the stone is? I've searched the net but can't find it.

Looked them all up and it's obsidian, so there you are sandyroe. I'm sure they called it something else though as that name doesn't ring a bell.
I've got some jewellery made from hematite which is black and shiny, could this be what they called it.
