usually yes
No. My three have all been castrated (they were done at a young age, they are now 7, 11 and 12) and they still spray at will. It tends to be territorial, if another cat is around. Invest in a good spray to clear the smell - I found Oust Three in One is good. Spray is also very corrosive - mine sprayed up cupboards and on some brass screens, and the stain is is really hard to remove if you don't catch it quickly.

Your Michael still needs "doing" though, he will wander less and not father unexpected kittens.
I bet he's lovely!

hes adorable, thanks for the advice peeps. merry christmas.x.
I have had two tom cats and both were castrated - neither of them sprayed. I think it can depend on the cat.

Has Michael climbed/destroyed the Christmas tree yet?
my two - both neutered - did continue to spray.
It didnt smell (to me) as they were no longer able to produce the chemical that makes it stink like a Tom can.. however they do only do it when stressed or marking territory.

Dont punish him if he does it... You can buy a spray from your vets Feliway - which contains pheramones to reassure the cat and smells like 'themselves' so they dont mark as they think they have already marked!
when I say my two did continue to spray.. it wasnt regularly!!! Only when other cats came into their house and stressed them out!

I made it sound like they did it all the time!!!

What age do they start spraying. Mine is 18 months old now and he's never sprayed. He had his gonads chopped at about 4 months.
