Hi There, we have a ten month old Chihauhau dog (Tyson) with a smooth coat. This is his first winter and we have noticed that he seems to be moulting all the time. I assume it is because he lives in a warm, centrally heated house. We brush him regularly with a rubber grooming mit (he really seems to enjoy this) and have now purchased some oil to add to his food. Do any of you have any further advice? Many thanks

Lol, sorry, cant offer advice, but I think the name Tyson for a Chihauhau is ace :-)
Hello Polly

The grooming mit can get rid of all the excess fur so that will help and plus you are giving him a nice relaxing massage which he obviously enjoys. Sometimes dogs just moult through stress, and the weather or they may not even at all. Room temp can play a part though. It is not always a specific breed that moults as i have many dogs of the same breed and some have moulted and others have not. Once he has settled in and got through his first winter you should know more about whether he will be a 'moulty' dog or not. Sorry this is not much help but it is all i can offer really.

Thanks for the replies. We will see how he gets on. We have given up wearing anything black as he is light tan in colour.

When we got him he was such a wee little thing - ten weeks old. As we drove home we discussed names and said we'd wait for a while before choosing one. I said that he would need a name that made him feel big and strong when he was out in the park with all the big dogs. My husband said "Like what?" and I said "Oh I don't know - Tyson or something." and it stuck!!! Didn't need to worry about him in the park, he loves all other dogs and assumes they will all be his friend and want to play!
Can just imagine little old pensioners coming up to stroke your little Chi, then asking you it's name! I bet they're taken aback when you say "Tyson". How sweet! ;o}

The funny thing is, he's not a bit like his namesake. He's got such a sweet nature - not an aggressive bone in his body. But we do get some funny reactions when people hear his name. His best friend is a Doberman - you should see them playing chase. Tyson can corner so much faster than his friend, who can never catch him!
Ah, that's so nice Polly.

Our daughter has a rescue greyhound who came with the name of Sally. She is such a soppy, lovable dog & has made many friends at the park with the tiniest of dogs. It's great to see them running about chasing each other.
sorry - was laughing then cos I mis-read it as 'chihauhau mounting'.
All sorts of quips were coming to mind....

Ignore me, I'm going home anyway.
Salla! You've already insulted little princess - now have a safe journey home! lol
ooh dear smudge - I was hoping no-one had noticed the princess comment. It was meant to be funny, but as soon as i pressed submit answer, I knew it wasn;t.

I'm going, ciao. (or should that be chow or chihau?)
Don't worry salla - we know you didn't really mean it. Have a nice warm evening. Ciao!
