My dog is really not very well and I am really worried about her. She is 11 now and last week she started to go off her food, not too unusual as she is a fussy eater. But on monday she just layed around all day.wouldnt even look up at you. And not eaten anything. Took her to the vet who said she did have a slight temp. and her back end was sore to touch. so took blood tests. gave her two injection in one antibiotics. The test showed raised white blood cells and antibodies, which showed an infection of some sort.Since then she hasnt eaten, not even fish or fresh chicken. not really drinking much when she does have a drink she drinks a lot.Have given her antibiotics twice a day.but still no better.very lathargic and was sick today but didnt even get up.We have another appointment tomorrow night with the vet.Has anyone else had these symptoms with there bitch.?

Cat food is usually quite tempting, and you could also offer a spoonful of margerine. You can get some liquid food that they give to invalids which is a sort of beef broth. Try a chemist or healthfood shop.

Thankyou for more ideas tomorrow I will go and get some cat food ect. as you have all kindly suggested. When I offered her some of our chicken tonight she licked her lips but wouldnt touch it. Poor little mite she is trying to wash herself as she has rather a messy (sorry ) tail end.I have tried to clean her up but she really hates it and I do not want to upset her too much. but after trying to wash no wonder if has put her off of eating anything.
i would think if she is trying to clean herself this must be a good sign good luck this is going to cost a fortune to get her to eat ,anything you open you can always freeze in small portions till she is ready to eat it , another thought baby food
Oh dear - you sound like you are having a nightmare. Pickles has ham quite often so that is ok.

When she is off her food I cook some beef mince and if she has that warm she loves it. I think the smell of it cooking gets her feeling hungry.

Me & Pickles send best wishes and wags - please keep us posted - we are all rooting for you x
Been trying to think of the name, just got it!

Now before you ask where you can get it from, here's a link:

When I order my wormers from them, they arrive the next day by post.

Hi to everyone, Good news Amber ate a couple of pieces of ham and then a few more pieces of chicken last night at 11.30. This morning she has also eaten a handful of chicken.!! I am so pleased just hope it will just get better and better now. What a relief my husband and I overslept this morning because we both slept last night.! and he reckons he wasnt worried!!!!!!!!!! Men ah!!
This morning my girl got up and went outside for a wee without me having to put her on lead to get her out so she must be feeling better. Thankyou all of you who have helped me over the past few days with all your hope and ideas. I really am so grateful to you all. will update later. Brenda xxx
Oh Brenda, I am so thrilled Amber ate! I could cry here, in fact I am a little bit-in a happy way :) You must be so relieved-can't imagine how happy you and hubby are (despite his outwardly blase attitude!)

Like yourself and kita, I am usually left with the unenviable task of medication-tablets, fleaing etc. Mr Pops only does it if I am away and it's totally necessary. Bless! I don't mind though, Jack is my dog-it's all part and parcel, isn't it :)

A big cuddle for Amber, and Ben too. x
Great news. She sounds as if she is really on the mend. x
Such a relief, it should be uphill all the way now (or do I mean
downhill, meaning she's on the mend, rather than an uphill struggle - oh well you know what I mean lol). Thanks for keeping us updated, there's nothing worse than when you offer advice and hear no more, just because they are not ours doesn't mean we don't care or worry about them.
What fantastic news - I am so pleased that she is perking up a bit.

Big wags from Pickles x
Hear hear, lankeela!
I aggree Lankeela, I keep thinking about that girl who's cat had kittens and the boyfriend wanted rid of them I think he was going to drown them in the lake, the last we heard they were hidden in a barn. I wonder what happened to the poor little things!

Hi everyone once again you have all made me feel as if you are all my friends.thankyou. Yes today she has just slept and just now had a handful of chicken and a little pilchards . Am sitting on the floor with her as I write this just to let her know I am near. Had a wee on her own again. Will take her bowl away in a minute and try something later this evening. I am so thrilled she has eat something, although tiny amount. And she has really washed and cleaned herself up. Tried to go to toilet but being as she hasnt any thing in her tummy she can't go. Maybe tomorrow. For now I am content on seeing her ears move and for her to look up at me.daft aren't I.??? XXXXXX
You are SO not daft just a big softie like the rest of us which is good!!

Keep us all posted wont you and me and Pickles are so pleased to hear she is keeping her pecker up.

It looks like the young lady is on the mend - and dogs seem to get over major operations and illness so much faster than us humans.

Best wishes to all of you.
i am so pleased for you ,bet last night was the first nights sleep for ages i shouldnt worry too much about her having a poo she cant have much in her to come through but be prepared for the squits as her tum might take a bit of settling .love to all of you, ruth and cassie
Oh now I am crying again! For goodness' sake!

Hmm, chicken and pilchards, possibly a combination best left to dogs! It is so reassuring to have them next to us isnit it? And I am sure she feels so happy to be with you, too.

Hope she keeps up the eating, she will be going from strength to strength! Lovely girl.

Woofs and wags from Lisa and Jack xxx

leelapops, See what you mean about chicken and pilchards uck!! maybe that is why she didnt eat the pilchards. Have also tried some roast dinner tin dog food, she didnt think much of that either. Think I am getting a bit ahead of her and will not offer her anything else for a while.one small step as the saying go's.tomorrow is another day.
xx
Try giving her a mix of chicken and rice, perhaps with a few peas. Chicken and rice is always what vet's recommend. I put some cheap chicken in a casserole with some rice, peas and lots of water and cook it slowly in the oven. I make enough for a couple of days. If you warm it a little in the microwave she is more likely to eat it because it will smell good. Nothing in it to upset her either.

Love to you and Amber. x
