Neck pain when running

I have been training at the gym 3 times a week for about 4 months. Last week I bought a pair of Nike running trainers and as soon as I started running on the treadmill I got a constant pain in my ankle that only went away when I stopped running. Iwas advised to buy a proper pair of trainers from a specialist sports shop, so I paid 65 for some proper training shoes. So, yesterday I tried them out but I still got the same pain in my ankle. Has anyone has this before or knows what it could be. Thanks.

Were the Nike trainers you first described actually for running in? Anyway sounds like you've hurt your ankle. Get yourself referred to a physiotherapist immediately, this may take some time via the NHS so get the yellow pages out and go private. Do not run on it. The longer you leave it without therapy the more chance there is of permanent damage.
There is a chance that you've just tweaked it and rest may sort it out. Personally i'd get my ass the the physio.
I feel a Tommy Cooper joke coming up...Doctor when I bang my head on the wall I get a pain. Answer: Then don't do it!

Likewise your problem is probably due to overuse and needs some rest to recover from a previous injury. So don't do it; wait until the problem has cleared.

Just noticed typo to the beginning of Q. I.e Neck pain when running....doh..

Thanks guys for advice. Think I will stick to the cross trainer for now and see how the ankle is in a couple of weeks.

Oh and yes Bigeye the trainers were in the 'Ladies running shoes section. Also its more of an ache than a pain and it doesn't hurt at any other time, just when i'm on the treadmill.
