I showed three dogs on Friday, one was unplaced, her sister came fifth in Limit Bitch and her mother was second in Veteran at eleven and a half years old, and then went into the Open class and won it. To say I am over the moon is an understatement. All three showed their socks off and enjoyed all the attention from the public.
I went back on Sunday with another dog, this time just to go on the British and Irish Dog Breeds Preservation Trust stand in Discover Dogs. These are vulnerable breeds that have less than 300 dogs registered annually and are in danger of becoming extinct if more people do not start to show an interest in them. I spent most of the day chatting to members of the public about the different breeds, and explaining about my breed. Breeds include the Lancashire Heeler (my breed), Smooth Collie, Skye Terrier, Otterhound, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Lakeland Terrier, Smooth Fox Terrier, Sealyham Terrier, Bloodhound,
Glen of Imaal Terrier, Field Spaniel, Sussex Spaniel, Cardigan Corgi, Irish Water Spaniel, Irish Red and White Setter, Norwich Terrier, Manchester Terrier, Curly Coated Retriever, Miniature Bull Terrier, Clumber Spaniel, King Charles Spaniel, Deerhound, Kerry Blue Terrier
It was very tiring but rewarding, and my dog loves every minute of it, he rolls on the floor and sticks his foot out to get people's attention so they make a fuss of him. He was filmed for Animal Planet, but don't know if he will become a screen star! Good journeys both days, although early starts and late getting home, so this morning was a bit on the drag getting to work.

winny :O you floozy ;) I would love to get my Jack on to obedience/agility-definitely looking into it for summer. The long-haired ones are beautiful-that Tibetan terrier is just stunning!
Snappy-I am not really sure (I guess that's why they are mixed!) I have a pet dog, so I'm not used to showing. Just seems highly stressful, but I wouldn't know!

lankeela Well done!! I am very pleased to hear of your success at Crufts. I loved the dog who won outright winner but wasnt there some great dogs this year.! Was you on tv at all?watched it but havent seen friday nights one yet. Was your rough collie ok after all.? Amber is getting better thankfully and growing back curly baby fur. at last. although still looks very bitty if you know what I mean. Brenda
My dogs are Lancashire Heelers - not Rough Collies. Unfortunately only the Best of Breeds are shown on TV and then only briefly unless they are shortlisted in the Groups. Still this is better than previous years when you didn't even see all the breeds.
The GSD Best of Breed belongs to a friend of mine and this was his third CC which makes him a Champion.
Although the Tibetan Terrier which won Best in Show was stunning, I have to say he does not look like any other Tibetan Terrier I have ever seen! They usually have scruffy wavy coats, and I am sure they must have used straighteners on him!

I'm a laydeee! I am very proud especially as I bred the won that won her class, and her mother has won twice there before - that reminds me it is her birthday tomorrow -happy birthday Becky - she will be fifteen. The one who came fifth this year won her class last year.

Even if you only have a pet dog, you can go to Companion Dog Shows which are for charity, you enter on the day and they have classes for pedigrees and crossbreeds, including novelty classes like handsomest dog and prettiest bitch. best rescue and dog that looks like its owner!
I ran one last week and raised �250 for Dog Lost, the computer site that helps people find lost or stolen dogs. Our Best in Show was a girl with a Newfoundland who was at only her second ever show - the dog was at its first (she is a rescue), so its not just the experienced show goers who do well. One point you may all find interesting - at the Companion Show all the winners all received cards, rosettes, and prizes of food, toys, dog beds, etc. with the BIS getting lots of lovely goodies. At Crufts all I got was a piece of coloured cardboard! Entry fee for Companion Show = �1 a class, entry fee for Crufts = �20 a class - go figure!

lankeela, the Companion shows sound great, and well done on raising so much. That site is so useful, I must cry at it at least once a week! Usually happy tears though.
I think all that Jack might win would be "daftest in show", although he is a very handsome boy, with tons of 'special' personality....My baby :)

To lilacben - Brenda, I am the one that shows rough collies - only took one this year. Unfortunately she was unplaced - but she was a star, and I managed to keep most of her coat intact. As the judge has a ch.bitch very similar to her style I was quite suprirsed - and I was even more surprised when he placed a dog in my class that literally crawled round the ring on her belly. How does that look to the public - very political this dog showing lark !
