erm - I never watched Crufts except maybe some years back but was uncomfortable but didn't know why.

Gave the show another go this year and whilst the dogs are extremely beautiful etc etc and well cared for I still was uncomfortable.

I now realise I think a dog should be a dog not groomed and coiffed beyond recognition and to get awards on behalf of the owners - I won't be watching again.

Look at my wee dog and he has won all the awards for me.

I tend to see it your way too, JJ.

Lankeela though takes a somewhat different view:

oh I know Chris - read that earlier on but on typing this recent post had forgotten but still feel the same actually my heart is very sad.

I'm the same, JJ, no time for Crufts.

I do enjoy sheepdog trials, we always watched One Man and his Dog

You only have to watch my dog in the ring to see how much she enjoys being shown. I would add that she is seven years old and has never had a bath in her life -  she is well fed on good quality food and well exercised with free running every day and her coat and condition is excellent. She had a litter of puppies six months ago and has come back looking better than ever. She has time away with me in a hotel when we stay at shows and on Thursday spent the day meeting and greeting the public at Discover Dogs promoting our vulnerable breed (only 108 registered last year).  She has a better life than all the overweight bored dogs that get taken round the block once a day and fed on c*rap from the supermarket and have to have their scruffy matted coats shaved off because the owners don't groom them properly. So please find out the truth before you condemn show dogs who are unlikely ever to be dumped in a rescue because they are not wanted.

That's a very glowing report of the showing world. While I'm sure you look after your dog beautifully, this is not always the case and has been well documented. In - breeding to achieve a characature of the original breed standard, puppies killed as they are not up to standard, breeders  glorifying unhealthy characteristics of certain breeds is just the tip of the iceberg. This happens in all breeds and all animals from rabbits to horses. If you look at breeds 70 years ago they now look like exaggerated versions of the original. I'm glad they have included the 'scruffs' classes for cross breeds and also the agility classes, but I feel uncomfortable watching the show classes too.

What strikes me is that there are so many different categories it must be quite unusual for anyone to go away without a prize of some sort!

It's just dog lovers showing off innit.

No its breeders showing off their stud dogs and bitches, who then charge thousands of pounds for service fees and puppies.

damn savages....

Quite 😂
