My cat has taken to visiting a neighbour's house, entering through their cat flap. They have complained about him and asked us to do something about it. Short of locking him up 24/7, which I don't want to do, what can we do about our naughty cat?

If they own a cat as well, they should know that it is nearly impossible for you to stop your cat from going in their house if they have a normal cat flap.  Our neighbours cats kept doing it to us (sleeping ounder our beds, eating our cats food etc!!) and the only effective way to stop it was to let them out of the room but to give them a quick squirt of water frop one of those plant spray things whilst they are running away.  Fortunately it has worked, and our cats have the house to themselves.  We did try the magnetic cat flap but it was useless, so we resorted to the above method.
I agree with Octavius, there is nothing you can do - we get "raided" by a monster cat that terrorises our poor tabby.  We are also trying to score a hit with a childs water pistol, no luck yet, just keep soaking the laminate in the hallway!  Its completely impossible and they cannot expect you to train your cat not to call, all they can do is "discourage" it from popping in, without harming your cat - good luck!
couldn't they install a magnetic cat flap for their cat, which may stop your cat getting in too (as it wouldn't have the magnetic collar to open it.  i knwo these thgisn are never fool (feline) proof, btu it might work.   Since your cat is the "naughty" one here, you could even offer to pay fro the cat flap and collar.
Woops....sorry Octavius, just spotted the magnetic cat flap bit of your post.   Sorry, ignore me!  xx
I'm having same problem, neighbours cat entering my cat flap and fighting my cats. Have placed jugs of water here and there, back door, front door, and garden, when cat appears chuck the water, he gets a fright and its working, the daily visits are now fortnightly. I know it sounds harsh but water doesnt hurt the cat.

I have the same problem with a neighbours cat. Its all very well saying its not the owners responsibility and that you cannot stop them but just put yourself in my position. The cat that breaks in through my magnetic cat flap not only eats my own cats food but it sprays everywhere, the sofa, window sills, waste bin, work surfaces, kitchen cupboards and on one occasion the kettle. I have tried everything from scaring it off, its too quick to squirt with anything, i have even tried 'Feliway' but thats rubbish too. I have just submitted an insurace claim for the damage and not including the 300 excess as its deemed numerous occasions the total is 2200. I cannot replace the damaged items yet as the cat still sprays daily. Any ideas?
