..in the middle of the road near me.
V sad, he was still warm, just delivered him to the RSPCA hospital, I hope the owner/s find him somehow. He wasn't 'chipped'.
Sorry, not a question but needed to share.

Awwwww poor little thing :-(
You did a very kind thing AP. So thoughtful.

Yes - poor puss. He wasn't visibly damaged and was still warm when I picked him up out of the road, just spent the last hour or so faffing about with the RSPCA.
Question Author
Thankyou both sorry just repeated myself there, I'm a bit spun out from it.
I'd be gutted....
the rspca will probably keep the poor thing for a week to see if anyone comes asking . can you post on facebook about it? might help track down the owners.
Pity whoever hit the poor soul initially didn't do something. Could have been saved, or at least put to sleep painlessly if the injuries were too great.

Cats are devils for veering across roads and even the best driver will have their work cut out avoiding them. I've hit several cats over the years and in the majority of cases I have found the owners fairly quickly and they have then been able to engage the services of their vet to take appropriate action. Even if the poor moggy couldn't be saved, at least it didn't have a lingering death in the ditch with the owner never knowing what happened.

I've just written/laminated a couple of notices, will stick them on a couple of lamp posts tomorrow.
You've hit several cats? I've never hit a cat...
That must have been awful for you AP. If u use facebook post it on your wall with the description of the cat and where he was found. If the info reaches the owner at least they won't continue a search party for the cat, and hopefully thank you for your kindness

I got the impression it was pretty instantaneous, he was just lying there on his side, no blood, eyes wide open but no signs of life. I tried to feel for a pulse and listened to find out if he was breathing - nothing. Got a lift to the RSPCA with a couple who had driven past and also spotted him in the road.
well done AP, ummmm I've been driving 40 years and I've never hit a cat or a dog or a hedgehog, rabbit, grass snake, red deer or alligator. In knowsley safari park a baboon did hit the car though but it was parked.
Question Author
Thanks AC - I've just done that, also posted info to a central 'missing pets' website.
Ummmmm driving 50,000 miles a year, often at night in rural Ireland there are bloody felines everywhere. Unfortunately you can't not hit a cat at some point in these circumstances. And it's not speed that is the cause, one cat I hit was when I was nursing the car home on three cylinders after an injector went pop, whichever way I swerved to avoid the cat, he darted the same way. I'm mortified. That cat was called Kiwi and lived at the local shop.
AP you did a very good deed. Always knew you had a soft spot for pussy. The cat gods will bless you.
Spikey...okay. I understand now. It's not that you can't see a cat, you can't see feck all!!
just think, if Percy Snow had been born in Ireland instead of Tod he would have invented the cats eyes decades earlier.
and not owed my grandma 2s/6d all those years

Thankyou Soc - you such a way with words ;-)
I just hope poor dead puss wasn't the only friend of some lonely elderly person - that would be f*cking tragic.
I've never hit a cat or dog. I did stop the traffic once on my way to work at 5.30am when a family of hedgehogs were crossing the road.
