White cat owner? Oh the hair!

I adopted a 9 year old cat from Cat's Protection in March. He's all white coloured. He's been shedding a lot of hair which I assume is due to higher temperatures in the summer months. Today I brushed him over with his Zoom Groom brush and the amount of hair that came from him was unbelievable! A massive handful at least! I brushed for ages and it just kept coming! Of course he loves being brushed so was quite happy with it. Do other coloured cats shed so much hair? Is it just because you can't, for example, notice a dark cats hair on clothes, furniture and carpets as much? Do white cats have MORE hair than other coloured cat's. My questions are endless! Tell me everything you know about white cats please!

We had a pure white rescue cat with blue eyes. Not deaf.

Please guard the tips of ears with suncream as they are prone to sunburn which can lead to health problems.
kiki frog ,my mum used to hoover her cat who adored it ,one day the insurance man called and saw her doing it ,he went home and had a go with his cat who promptly shredded the curtains trying to escape!

@nannybooby lol! @albaqwerty, my cat has alway been an indoor cat, apparently from birth and he's now nine. So thankfully the risk of sunburn isn't strong. He doesn't even go near the windows which I find strange! Most cats sit on the sill having a nosy at the world. My cat's favourite place is a cardboard box - even though he has a comfy cat bed!
hi mizfiesta :-),i had a white indoor cat myself, which was why i noticed your question.he snowed all over the house, but,i remember reading that it was the fact he was an indoor cat rather than the colour, that made him shed sooo much!enjoy your noisy, messy baby;-)
I would agree about the extra sun protection for white cats. Our white cat when I was growing up got skin cancer and we eventually lost him to it.
I have a tabby and white cat, a sort of beige coloured dog and a skewbald horse. In all cases the paler hairs show up on dark surfaces and the darker ones on pale surfaces. I used to have a long-haired tortoiseshell and white cat and for a long time after she died I kept finding her hair on my clothes in the wardrobe.
slicker brush and lots of grooming
Caspar is semi long-haired and white...and deaf as a gate post. No blue eyes though.
He sheds for England. Last year he developed cat acne, and lost a lot of fur...now he is making up for it by leaving huge wads of fur wherever he goes. Not on the bed,thankfully-but on any other fabric surface...oh-and also on the kitchen worksurfaces...yuchhh.
Sally-my lurcher-is also mostly white....so I am doomed...

Pastafreak, I'm trying to keep Snowman's presence in my kitchen to a minimum due to me finding white hairs on my work tops - yuck! The white hairs STILL manage to find their way in there though :(
I have to put things on the worktops at night to keep him off...he'll try sleeping on the cooker(black) also if he can-the rascal!!
