I tried that by planting one up in a pot and burying a few in the garden. After about 2 years, the potted one that I had grown bored with and stood in the garden, showed signs of life then promptly died. The others, a few years later, I'd forgotten about till I read your letter and I went and checked and I'm not sure it's them, but there are a couple of stems I've not seen before. I did know they were very slow growers, but I hadn't realised how slow! I think that's why they're so expensive at the garden centres.

Thanks it worth a try.

I followed instructions as found on Google etc and they usually said soak them overnight first.
I did this and out of the 20 odd I had only 6 of them swelled up so I assumed they are the only viable ones . We shall see.
Yes, soak them and plant the viable ones, I have 4 which are now 5 years old. They are about 6 inches tall and ver healthy, actually lots of new growth this year compared to any other year.
Sorry, forgot to say mine have always been in th greenhouse except on good sunny days when I set them outside for a few days.
