his full name is Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. He's Hawaiian.

Actually, strictly speaking, he was hawiian as he died a few years ago. The album with this on is called Facing Future, and also has a really good version of Country Roads on it. Honestly!! Oh, and Somewhere over the rainbow/What a Wonderful World is also on the Soundtrack of Meet Joe Black.

totally useless bit of information about this song is that it was also used in the episode of ER when Dr Mark Greene dies.......damn I cried at that one!
