I've got a flare up of trigeminal neuralgia and can't open my mouth properly.

You have obviously had flare ups before. It can stop as suddenly as it starts. Hope it will subside soon. Have you taken paracetamol or ibuprofen. 

Is it just one side of the jaw ?

have you been prescribed carbamazepine ? It can be caused by diabetic  neuropathy . My sister has suffered with it and has diabetes

You have my full sympathy, Barry. It's one of the worse pains to man. I Hooe it goes as quickly as it came. I was on Gabapentin for a few years. Some time ago now. I don't like thinking about it really, let alone talking about it. I'm frightened it might come back.

In fairness TN is excruciating painful.  Take the medication . Keep warm, drink plenty .

Thanks all, haven't had an attack for years and am feeling pretty miserable and sorry for myself.

Carbamazepine is being delivered this morning, hopefully, GP whizzed the prescription to my chemist just after they closed yesterday.
