I recently have had this and basically I felt a presence in the room. A figure like skeletor out of he man was stood behind me in my room. I didn't feel the presence hold me down but I could not move. I was a little scared but as it isn't the first time I was prepared.
I heard that if this happens then commonly the person can have out of body experiences. Well my question is how can I accelerate the occurrence of this phenomenon a because even though its scary it is exhilarating.

I've heard of this and I think it was called 'the hag' when I read about it. Interesting that you want to accelerate the experience, from what I read people found it terrifying and were desperate to make it stop!
I don't know how you can intensify the experience but I hope you get what your looking for!

First few times it was terrifying. The last time was less so. When the 'presence' was leaving I could hear a cracking sound like lightening too. I welcome it. It makes me believe there is more to life than plain life and death.

Since sleep paralysis is normal, but occurs with REM phases of sleep when we dream vivid dreams , it's perhaps no surprise that people have hallucinations on waking at the wrong moment.
Not sure, if you associate this with the afterlife, why you think that anyone in the afterlife would bother a recently awoken human by appearing at their bedside as a skeleton and doing what you describe, or arrange such an apparition.

I had this once and felt a comforting caring presence standing by, I could not move, I'm 56 now and it only ever happened once
i suffer from this and it is awful i saw a doctor about it the first one who had heard of it and he knew all about it,as he experienced it when under stress of exams.he was very helpful and printed of a booklet on it to explain it more.

it effects around 1-3 million people in the world and its not proven but is more common in brighter people.

the advice i was given to get out of it though it feels like its going on for ever is to try to wriggle your toes.

dont know if that helps
I get it too sometimes, and I also see "shadow beings" (shapes just out of eyeline)
i had this a few times years ago and i found it terrifying but couldnt wait for it to happen again cos it was so weird (and i wanted to be able to suss it out) i dont know about out of body experiences but the first time it happened twice i managed to rip myself out of it and run to my mates room and jumped into bed with him crapping myself... twice i woke up on the sofa again.... so i assumed i was dreaming... the next morning he was going mad with me saying if i had to jump into bed with him could i please do it quietly as he had to be up for work...... he never mentioned me getting back out of bed and i would have had to climb over him to get out cos i got between him and the wall when i jumped in..... i seriously thought all the demons of hell were gonna drag me down lol

what do you mean by accelerate the occurance? do you mean make it happen or once its happening go with it and see what happens?

Make it happen more and eventually have an out of body experience. Most Time it has happened to me is when I have been alone and had a lack if sleep due to drinking etc the previous nights. So generally it happens when I am run down
I suffer with sleep paralysis too and find it quite frightening. It was worse as a child but now I only get it during times of great stress.

I have never felt a presence that I can remember.
well personally i just think its dreaming though for years i thought it was something else. this is a great place if you are interesed in dreams and stuff http://www.dreamviews.com/content/ i used it years ago and i learned how to control really bad dreams with help there.... it also tells you how to induce dreams and stuff and there used to be a massive section on sleep paralysis.
nom this might sound stupid but if you get time have a look at the site, there is usually a trigger which sets the dreams off...once you know the trigger you can recognise it and stop the dream before it gets to the really scary stage... lol i am aware how stupid that sounds but it works.
that is interesting pdust, I can control a dream if I don,t like the way it is going, for instance if I was dreaming that I had lost my handbag or forgotten it I can just remind myself while I am dreaming it that it IS only a dream and the bag will appear
ive always been able to do that folly its great fun ... if you can concentrate you can just do exactly what you want in the dream.... but with the bad dreams i was panicking too much ..... when i realised with help from the forum what the trigger was as soon as it appeared in the dream i stopped panicking and and could control it after that

This is interesting stuff. It's weird but last time I had it I believed the presence was someone who knew me. I was even thinking it was some kind of projection of my mum who passed away maybe warning me about something. Really strange but fascinating all the same. The thing is you feel so awake when it happens wide awake and last time I felt adrenalin buzzing all over my body like I had powers beyond anything and that's why I was not so scared.
Then when I heard the electricity cracking sound when the presence disappeared it was amazing. I didn't wake up I just got out of bed and looked out of the window to see if I could see anything. I didn't though.
Something similar happened to me.. I was in my room and felt like someone was on my ceiling. I sat up and I froze. Unable to move something rushed over my body making me feel like I was filling with warm water and the hairs stood up on my neck. This was only a few seconds of feeling this way, but 'something' made a croaking/ crackling sound as it left. I was terrified and called my boyfriend straight away. But it's made me think about other 'dimensions' :)
I have had quite a few "Waking Dreams" as my doctor called it. But I am usally dreaming about something....like last night I was dreaming about trying to open my eyes but couldnt. which I belive was one of these dreams again. But never a sense of out of body.
I too suffer from sleep paralysis. Had it about four times in my life now. Each time has folllowed a time of trauma... an operation, a break up etc. Each time equally as scarey. first time i thought my recently dead aunt was pulling the quilt off me from the bottom of the bed. I couldnt move - there was nothing there although it felt as though there was a presence in the room. The following three times, I have felt like a presence 'jump' onto the pillow beside me, as I was just awaking. Couldnt move a muscle or make a sound, but felt I could hear the breathing of something next to me, and felt a crushing feeling bearing down on my chest as though this 'thing' was holding me down. I also felt as though it was a bit difficult to breathe. In a few seconds I was able to move, and the 'thing' left my space and my room.
I am vaguely aware that it is the mind that wakes up a minute or so before the body, so the body is still in paralysis stage but the mind is awake. It is not that common and very frightening, but when you know what it is, you are less scared. Good luck with your research.
Pdust, I don't believe it's a dream since my mind is fully alert and I am completely aware of what is going on around me, I just cannot move or call out. It happens so rarely these days that it warrants no further intervention. Last episode was in Dec 08 following death of ex partner's daughter from a brain tumour.
