I've looked at a few of Crippen's family trees on ancestry and as far back as 1705 the Crippen's were from Connecticut....
His parents were both born in the USA: This is them in 1900 living in Los Angeles with Crippens natural son, the cenus form asked for the Country of birth of each person, Myron Augustus Crippen put New York for his parents and his wife put Wales for her fathers birth and Pensylvania for her mother's birth. Interestingly, the son hawley otto, who was left with the grandparents, gives his father's birthplace as Michigan but his mother's birthplace as Ireland, she was called Charlotte and died in 1892 but I;ve not found her maiden name yet.

Charlotte Jane Bell was born Dublin Ireland 1860, and the trees on ancestry for crippen, as craft says, have all his male line mach to 1685 and all born in the New England states.

Thanks everyone- seems the connection is a myth then.
well not necessarily, without looking at where any siblings or aunts uncles, great aunts uncles went you can't dismiss it. It would need some closer research to establich whether any of the male crippen ancestors went to Ireland.
Question Author
Really wouldn't know where to start Dot ..... I had assume that it might have been Irish Crippin's who moved to the USA, perhaps at the same time that my Crippin ancestors left Ireland for England (potato famine time) .... hadn't really thought abouut them going from the USA to Ireland ..... so this would mean tracing the Irish Crippins back to see if they originate in the USA I guess ..... and I really wouldn't know how to access any such records. My Crippin's were in England from 1849 at least.
I think the difference here is the spelling, Crippen in England in 1841 onwards was mainly found in kent and the Middlesex area, with Crippin being the spelling with Irish births and in more Northern Counties,
