The changes really affect my eyes, have you changed the fonts as well seem to be getting glare effects especially on latest posts... Also preferred the poster being more obvious..
The lack of clutter is good though.. and at least you haven't changed the people

Thanks for the feedback Rowanwitch.

It may be the red bringing out the "glare" in other colours.

We will make the poster more obvious in the next upgrade!

Sorry to be a pain in the retinas.

I think the Topic you are in should be more obvious too Ed.
Thanks for highlighting this to the Ed.
Another thing also which could be improved is the Topic Section. Better highlighting of the Topic Section being used would be a great help as it was better in the old style. Thanks
We could with getting rid of the moving adverts too please Ed, which we have to scroll past to get at the posts. Those of us eith eyesight problems (and plenty without) have commented about the current rotating DVDs as being aggravating. I don't come on here to buy DVDs anyway!
Hi Boxy, the Amazon ads only appear in the ed's blog, so it shouldn't be a problem in your day-to-day of the site.

I agreed redman. I suggest a king of "background" change on hover and selection where each "element" highlights as it is selected or hovered over. Anygood?

Sounds good Ed, thanks if you can improve things especially for those with impaired vision !!
fedman, if you'd trim the brim of your hat you'd see a lot better.
and I'd spell names a lot better.
Hi jno ! rowan is going to take my Hat and Cloak off for me, would you like to be there for the unmasking ? lol
Ed - I so far think most changes are ok. But not sure about our names being in black on the latest posts feed - I am finding it more difficult to see who posted what. Maybe it is a case of getting used to it.

I do think it was fine as it was though. Not too keen on the font change either.

I am sure we will get used it though.
I have noticed also just this morning that everything seems to be slower and we have uber internet speeds at my house. So is it the site?
Why did it need upgrading Ed?
I think not seeing clearly who the name is shouldn't really be a problem, you just answer the questions you fancy or can answer, if it's just chatty stuff on CB, you can keep an eye on the thread or subsribe to it I guess.

Although admittedly that's easy for me to say as I can see who it is perfectly well! Lol.
No, the site is the same speed as always, it is likely to be a hicough in the pipes your end somewhere, not standing on the internet hose are you?

There hasn't actually been a change of font!

We're attempting to find a consistency in language - for example, now, if it is clickable, the phrase underlines (unless it is a button). You'll also notice all titles are in Red.

This a is a gradual process of tidying up clutter and rationalizing some of the stranger design choices we were lumped with from the legacy site.

As suggested we'll improve the visability in the next upgrade (making the names bold across the site is something we've obviously missed this time!) - is there anything else you can see which you consider "amiss"?

Today is a day of taking stock of what everyone's first reaction is, so let me know!

'the legacy site'.

I suppose I must be part of the legacy too. God, I feel old.
I think it's an improvement and has fixed the main problem I was finding with the site in that the formatting often went all screwy (technical term!) when using anything above 100% zoom.

I agree that the names in recent posts could be clearer and it may read slightly better with the simple inclusion of the word "by" before the users name
Internet gnomes must be about then lol, I shall check my speeds!

Maybe the non font change just looks different due to colour change?

I would imagine that in a few days/weeks people won't remember the differences.
Hi Sqad,

Just in case my most recent answer doesn't answer you enough here's why:

*We were looking "scruffy" - we're trying to smarten up a bit. We will eventually have a consistent language throughout the site (we havn't got it quite right yet, but we will).

*We were trying to make it harder for users to enter questions JUST in the title box. This might be something which effects Q&P more than other areas.

*We wanted to make some minor changes to the My Profile section of the site - in particular make the "Activate Avatar" link/tickbox into a button.

*We wanted to remove a couple of tension points from the profile - namely the "reported/removed" count.

All the best,

Spare Ed
Ed, people are saying they don't have a Search button next to the search panel. I have one on Firefox but perhaps IE isn't showing it.
