I wouldn't like animated ones, that truly would make AB look messy.

I've tried loading a .gif file into gravatar and it only displays the first frame of the animation.

Isn't Gravatar just a site that applies a pic to your e-mail address, if so, won't some other site that can add pics/anims to your e-mail address work aswell?

Yes BBBE99, but AB software only sends the avatar request to Gravatar. No other site will get a look in.
