Can you successfully use chopsticks?

Or do you opt for a traditional knife and fork whilst at an Oriental restaurant?

Why I posted this in news I have no idea.

Apologies.

Please report in wrong category.
I can use chopsticks but I eat with a knife and fork
Not a fan of chinese any more, my local is so stuck in the sixties, i do stirfry at home!!!
I can successfully use chopsticks.

Thing is, every time I've learned how to use them I swiftly forget how to by the time I'm at another oriental restaurant. So I have to learn again (and I'm screwed if there's nobody else who can use them to remind me).

Still, it seems to work.
yes. was taught when i was a kid and had to use it every day for many years.
it's a real snob thing. people who eat with chopsticks think the rest of us are rubbish. I'm sick of getting "that" look when I ask for a fork!
I only ever use chopsticks for soup and eating peas. Otherwise i stick to the nosebag.

(Strictly a fork.)

I thought you were making some subtle point about the current knife crime epidemic.

I must admit though, when I first read your question I could not see what the subtle point was !!
I learnt to use chopsticks when I was about 6 courtesy of my Dad and his travels with the Navy, so we use them whenever we go out for an oriental meal or make a stir fry. Though my Mum and sisters always opt to use a knife and fork.
Yes - partial to a chop stick..
Nope - I can't get the hang of them at all, last time I used them I had to skewer the food on the chopstick cos it took me so long it was getting cold! I need chopstick lessons :(
I just cannot see the point of the clever-sods who insist on using chopsticks for an Oriental meal, but ONLY for eating Oriental. Why don`t they use them all the time?

I have never used chopsticks and always ask for a fork, they are an Oriental custom but we are not in the Orient.
I have a theory that given some Lard, Jam and vinegar, by varying the relative proportions you can duplicate any Chinese dish. Consequently, I don't eat it and don't need to use chopsticks :-)
Lol @ tigger - hi hun. x

I'm the same. I can use them...but slowly!!
yes
easily as it happens

did this help ??
When I was in China my host commented that I was an expert in using chopsticks. Would always use them in an oriental restaurant.

I learn as a uni student when we ate a lot of fried rice. It isn't really that difficult.
Yes tried when I was a student and it canme pretty easy - probably don't hold them quite right.

I don't think people who use them look down their noses at those who don't -it's just a bit of fun and western food doesn't lend itself to chopsticks

How whould you tackle a steak?
If by stabbing the food in a skewer like fasion you mean using chopsticks then yes!!! LOL

But to be honest, it takes too long and I'm far to greedy to eat slow, fork is the best implement in which to shovel food in my mouth!
