A non white actress playing Anne Boleyn.

don't think either would be right, but hey this is 2021, supposedly anything goes....
Two threads at least on this already.

No one has answered my question as to whether they're okay with white men playing Jesus Christ.
Question Author
Just reading through earlier threads. Missed them.
It's plain ridiculous. I won't be watching it. A sop to woke-ism.
Don’t see a problem myself
Another instance of paying lip
service to the woke. I’ve seen the trailers and the casting is wholly unconvincing. Ridiculous in fact. I won’t be watching.
Chinajan, since we don’t know what Jesus looked like, or if he even existed - I think it’s fair to say that practically any man might fit the role of Jesus.
just browsing the cast list, looks like princess elizabeth, anne's daughter and future queen of england, is not listed as being portrayed.

would a non-white Elizabeth have been a woke portrayal too far?
"No one has answered my question as to whether they're okay with white men playing Jesus Christ."

I'm OK with anybody playing anything as long as they bring some credibility to the role. A black Anne Boleyn just isn't credible, end of.
Lol @ end of!
then why is a white man playing Christ "credible"? Is it because you're more credulous about white men?
oops, I sneaked in after the thread ended, Martin.
It is being billed as a 're-imagining' of the story of Anne Boleyn, not a documentary. You people are so dismissive of anything that doesn't sit with your viewpoint. Folk on here forgoing watching their fav sports because the participants take the knee for a few secs. Not watching potentially decent programmes because the casting is all wrong. Lighten up. Relax those sphincters a little. Heaven forbid it might even be worth watching.
Why not have Henry VIII dressed as Spiderman & Anne as Lady Gaga?
As I said on another thread, as far as I can tell, it's not supposed to be an accurate historical drama, but a fictitious murder mystery set in that age. The characters are representations of their real life selves, not historically accurate ones. The difference between this and a white Mandela is that Mandela's race was a major part of who he was, Anne Boleyn's wasn't. There are many examples of white actors playing historically non-white roles. John Wayne as Genghis Khan springs to mind.

Having said all that, I haven't watched the show, nor will I. It's not my type of thing.
Jno, see my post at 11.56.
Quite apt really as apparently the real AB was never accepted at court.
// John Wayne as Genghis Khan//
precisely, it didn't work did it?
Naomi, given the country Jesus was (supposedly) born in, he should be middle eastern. He certainly shouldn't have looked like Max von Sydow of Robert Powell.
Forget any acting ability. Just see colour first !!
