I bought this kitchen scale and wanted to use it right now but I can't get it to do anything. My neighbour lent me her kitchen scales.

Anybody tell me how to get it working - thanks

JJ have you got electronic bathroom scales? They will have a battery which you could remove and put in your kitchen scales.

Has it got a battery?
Check the batteries.
Question Author
yes the battery is in - but it has been lying in cupboard probably a year now or two
Check the battery in another appliance. It will be flat, is my guess.

tilly it is one of those wee round batteries - I don't have any other items to check it in. Not to worry. Like it was never used and I did only buy it because of the flatness - you know wouldn't use much room in the cupboards.
There is a smell symbol just to the right of the display; that looks like the on/off switch.
It either needs a new battery or has broken.
Actually it's a SMALL symbol, not a smell symbol. At the other side of the display the word "unit" can be used to switch between lb, Kg etc
Question Author
bh - I have "smelt" LOL as well but have really felt and felt for a switch but cannot feel a thing
If you know someone who has a multi meter they could check battery voltage.
Question Author
have felt the two wee lines and pressed them but nothing - it is probably the battery - I used to have some in a drawer - may have a wee look - thanks anyway.
It could be a touch switch ie, you only have to put your finger on it like on your smartphone screen. If that doesn't turn it on the battery may have gone flat.
Has it ever been used JJ? Sometimes items like this that come with a battery have a little tab that you have to pull out to activate the battery, but if it's been working at some point, then that won't be the problem.
If you've never used it at all, there might be a thin piece of plastic between the battery and the terminal it connects to. You need to remove that so that the battery can do its job.

Many discount stores sell packs with several of those button cell batteries in them for just a pound or two, so it wouldn't cost you much to try another battery.
If you need a manual, see here:
https://manuall.co.uk/kitchenware/kitchen-scales/silvercrest-kitchen-scales/
(Those manuals are generally multi-lingual but, if you scroll down far enough, you'll get to the English instructions eventually).
Its a touch sensitive switch.

As has been suggested check the battery - its probably a 2032 which you will get quite easily (Poundland,Tesco, Timsons etc.)

Once you get it going, you can change units (g, oz, ml etc) by touching the left button, and reset the scale to zero even with something on the scale (tare)
Lidl sell Silvercrest stuff. If it really doesn't work try taking it back.
I recently bought two little stick-on LED lights to put in my kitchen cupboards. They are great.
Question Author
yes it is a 2032 - you get a pack from Poundland - don't recall ever using it at all. I know Chris re the sticky thing and battery but seems to have been removed.
